Thanksgiving had light and joy all around
With only my family to sing along
Until I felt my brain go off like a alarm
Almost forgot to bring a text to them all
Texting grandparents but only silence remains
15 minutes worried I make the call
Only for it to answer, multiple broken tears I hear
Why do I hear your cries of pain on the other end of my ear grandma?
"I'm so sorry my dear sweetheart but you are to late now
Grandpa passed away 15 minutes before you called"
The shock has consumed me for only a second
Then I breakdown trying to hold it all in
Crying with a wet face for so long
While my sister comforts me with her little kid arms
I hang up the phone with such disbelief, anger and sorrow
Few minutes go by I must tell the other what I know
Made the call to my other sister
Told her to go with her father into an empty bright room
Trying to tell an 8 year old that grandpa is long gone
The one we haven't seen for so long
I continue to cry as if I was stabbed with many pieces of glass
Finally I say he passed away but she doesn't understand a thing
Her father tells her the real word than she starts to bawl
I hang up with a sore throat not wanting to talk to another
Wishing I called 15 minutes earlier or even stay by his deathbed
Of course life is unexpecting thats for sure
That is why I'm terrified of making a call
I fear once I call and they answer
They could be long gone before I can say hello
