Gabriella Norman couldn't sleep. There was a storm just outside her bedroom window and it was brewing. She tossed and turned, but, unfortunately, it didn't help not one bit. Finally, she sighed as she lay up in her bed. Gabriella then reached over to her nightstand, receiving her phone off it. She unlocked it, scrolling through her contacts. Then, when she found the person that she wanted to talk to, she smiled and began to dial their number.

After three rings, the caller successfully picked up.

"Hey, what's up?" came the voice of Malibu Deanne, one of Gabriella's best friends, from the other end of the phone.

"Nothing much. Just waiting out this stupid storm," replied Gabriella. "What about you, Mal?"

"Same here, but I'm just worried if the storm will continue tomorrow," admitted Malibu. "It's the first day back to school, and there's no way in hell that I am getting my outfit wet."

Gabriella shook her head, a smile on her face. If it was something that Malibu was going to worry about, it was always going to be her outfit.

"Hey, don't worry, I'm sure the storm will be gone in the morning," assured Gabriella, though she wasn't one hundred percent sure herself.

"You're so right, Gabs," said Malibu excitedly. "I mean, why should I be worried about the storm when we're one day from becoming semi-seniors!"

Gabriella laughed softly at the word 'semi-seniors'. It had been a term Malibu had been using ever since the last day of Gabriella and her friends' sophomore year.

"I can't wait," Gabriella beamed.

"Me neither! So, what are you wearing tomorrow?"

The sudden question surprised Gabriella."Uh, I don't know yet. I haven't thought about it."

Malibu groaned and Gabriella imagined her best friend's signature pout on her face. "Gabbie, you have to know or else you'll end up wearing something ugly."

Gabriella sighed. "I'll probably wear this blue top that I just bought, white pants, and a white cardigan. How's that sound?"

"Sounds super cute," replied Malibu. "Can't wait to see it."

"I can't wait to see your outfit, too," said Gabriella.

She grinned as Malibu's laugh filled her ears.

"Omigod, I can't wait for tomorrow," she squealed. "See you at school, Gabbie."

"Okay, see you at school, Mal," replied Gabriella.

Gabriella then hung up the call and placed her phone back on the nightstand. She laid back down on the bed, her head resting on the soft, fluffy pillows. Gabriella stared up at her bedroom ceiling. The darkness above her began to calm her storm-ridden nerves. Soon, she started to drift off to sleep. As she closed her ivy-green eyes, a clap of thunder and the possibility of a happy first day of junior year played in the background of her tired mind.

When Gabriella awoke from her sleep the next morning, she was delighted to find that the storm had stopped its raging. And she was also delighted to find out that she had scored a ride from Zane Hanson, one of her senior friends, without even having to ask. She trotted down the stairs of her house, wearing a baby-blue tube top over a long white cardigan, with white ripped jeans, and white sneakers with her dirty-blonde hair framing her face in flowing curls. Her phone then buzzed in the back of her jeans pocket. Gabriella unlocked her phone, seeing that she had received a text from Zane.

ZANE: Hey, I'm almost there. Are you ready?
GABRIELLA: Yeah, I'm ready. Heading outside after breakfast.
ZANE: Alright. Don't keep me waiting, okay?
GABRIELLA: I won't. I promise :)
