She wasn't able to sleep that night. Yuki cursed herself for noticing his distress before. She stared at the ceiling, regretting to even let him go. She was pretty sure that he was off somewhere, breathlessly searching for the anti addiction pills. He wouldn't have to be in pain right now. She tossed and turned in her bed, her small, fragile body sweating slightly at the very thought of giving Zero any kind of pain. She turned towards her left side, where Yori was sleeping soundly on the other bed, not giving a care about a single problem in the world. Yori was a carefree type of person. And Yuki tried to learn from her but she had too many personal problems at this point to even sleep soundly for a night. Yuki almost thought of getting dressed and returning to her duty. That was just even when she heard frantic footsteps approaching their room. Yuki immediately sat upright in her bed, fringes and strands of chocolate hair falling across her face at the sudden action. Before she knew it the door was flung open and the figure of a tall vampire from the Night Class panting heavily was uncovered from the shadows of the dark hallway, half crouched as his hands took support of his bent knees. The Night Class student's wild hair was drenched wet from the sweat of running. It was a long way from the school building to the dormitory and Yuki had to learn it the hard way at end number of times. The sound of the sudden opening of the wooden door even irritated Yori's slumber, as she herself to was woken up. She sat upright like Yuki, rubbing her eyes groggily. When Yori's blurred sleepy vision was recovered she fully open her eyes to see the Night Class student. "Wait... wh- OH MY GOD!" Yori defensively covered herself modestly with the furry blanket. Both of them were only clad in pyjamas which wasn't really the best thing Yori wanted to use as a outfit of impressing values for the charming Night Class students. But Yuki's expression only displayed anticipation of bad news. And it was. The breathless vampire spoke in a stressed tone, "It's Zero."
Nothing else was necessary to say after hearing that. Yuki immediately flung herself out of her bed. "Yori you stay here." Yori looked like she wanted to protest but both Yuki and she knew that she needed her sleep since Yori was no better than Yuki when it came to health. Yori nodded and resumed her sleep while Yuki quickly wore a hoodie over her nightshirt and departed with the vampire. They both were running across the hallway, there footsteps echoing through the sleepy atmosphere, waking up the sleepers in rooms which they ran past. Yuki wondered how her fellow companion even got into the female side of the dorm since there was such heavy security in each section, may it be leisure room or the boys dorm. But this was not the time to think about that. Yuki pushed it aside, labelling it 'bullshit' in her head. Then the thoughts of guilt invaded her mind, consuming her entirely when realisation dawned on her that Zero might be in distress because of her. She swallowed the lump of fear in her throat. They had finally got out of the Day Class Dorms and plummeted towards the direction of the Night Class Dorms. Yuki looked up at the deep dark blue hue of the night sky, glimpsing at the halved moon. The moonlight guided their way. Now even she had started sweating since it was felt too hot running at night. She did think of taking off her jacket but she was too modest too investigate in her bare nightshirt. The Vampire had taken a turn from the Night Class Dorms, sprinting towards the direction of thickets of the forest trees. Yuki had no choice but to follow at the same pace. "What happened?!" Yuki finally asked in voice interrupted by deep breaths. "I'd rather not say!" The Vampire half shouted over his shoulder while they continued running at full speed. Yuki really had a hard time catching up to those superhumans. They stopped suddenly. Yuki's vision suddenly directed over to the scene in front of her. A gasp escaped her breathless lips.
The injured forms of Zero and Ruca lay on the forest floor. They were unconscious and their bodies were draped over the emergency beds which were only an inch higher than the forest floor. Several vampires were worked up there. Some were tending to Zero and Ruca's injuries, even though no amount of beastly power could heal their condition. Some were busy looking for medical supplies though Yuki knew that it was not going to work. Some were busy mixing and matching their powers to cure them. Blood was splattered across the unconscious vampires. Ruca's bare thigh looked like it had two huge holes cementing through her milky skin, infected blood and pierced flesh grotesquely exposed to the cold breeze of the night. Zero was positioned beside Ruca. His platinum hair was dripping of blood. A fleshy part of his arm was torn out the way Ruca's thigh was. Yuki cried out at the sight. She ran towards Zero. And almost coincidentally, Kaname was rushing towards Ruca. Apparently some Vampiress was able to fetch Kaname on time.
For the first time since Kaname was 15, there was some kind of emotion evident on his face. It was white sorrow and anger boiling out of his facial muscles, producing something so dark but still so sad from his face. They both ran towards their lovers, both stopping in front of their injured bodies in unison. Kaname panted, sweat and shock lacing through his brows. Kaname was looking so normal for once everyone could only stare at his rare ordinariness. Everyone was so painfully silent Kaname could hear the nightlight wind whistling by his sharp ears.
"What is going on?!" Yuki cried out, hot tears started streaming down her petite face. She dropped to her knees, all the air sucked out of her lungs as she stared at his lifeless form. "We have t-to do something...." The hardened leaves crackled under her knees, as she sat there with uncharacteristic anger flowing through her veins but predictable mourning glistening through her tears. Kaname could only stand there, frozen to see Ruca's bloody and battered form only an inch away from him, a thin trail of blood spilling out of her pale lips. They weren't dead but they were so helplessly injured that they resembled damage beyond repair. And this fact pierced both Yuki and Kaname's heart like arrows of sorrow. Nobody responded or even lifted a finger to help Yuki and Kaname even after hearing Yuki's cry of help because of how tragic the whole scene looked to everyone else. Yuki's fringes covered her eyes the same way Kaname's wild hair stands shadowed his eyes. They both looked like jars which were overflowing with thoughts of anger and vengeance.
Yuki wasted no time in aiding to Zero. She pushed to twin vampires who were trying to tend to Zero but had frozen at the scene, and flung Zero's good arm around her shoulder. Everybody thought she was crazy to try and carry Zero back to the infirmary with how short and dainty she was compared to tall Zero. But they were underestimating her for some average weak girl who needed a knight in some shining armour but she didn't. She stood up with almost the entire weight of Zero's unconscious body threatening to weigh her down but she wasn't going to go down now. She slowly limped away from the large group of vampires, towards the infirmary with Zero's weight nearly making her stumble but she refused to show any sign of weakness. She surprised everyone with her hidden strength inside her petite exterior as she bore Zero's body on one side and kept on limping at a desperately average pace. "W-wait! Y-you can't do that!" One of the vampire's complained trying to run after the duo. Yuki suddenly stopped pacing, flicked her head back to glance at the causer of the interruption. Her eyes flashed towards the vampire, a dangerous glare pinning his voice down in his throat. She looked so unbelievably dangerous and scary when she was being provoked that the Vampire trembled slightly at how aggressive her response was. His head bowed downwards and he backed away with embarrassment and fear evident on his face. She continued to limp away from them until she disappeared into the darkness of the forest and had entered the infirmary far away from the crowd. Kaname recovered from all the shock slowly and registered everything which had occurred so far. Taking Yuki as an example, he slowly laced his arms under Ruca's knees and back and carried her delicate body away from the crowd too. Everyone was silent and so shocked. Class was cancelled for the Night Class that day.
He held his sleeping goddess in his arms steadily and slowly walked through the moonlight. He glared at the full moon and whispered to the night in rare anger, "It's all my fault." Kaname had been truly broken now.
