MONDAY, 11:30 AM, SCHOOL
The rest of the weekend was filled with weird, cryptic moments between Niccolo and I. What made it even worse was the fact that I was in his stupid friend group and I had to hang around him all day.
I was in my fourth class of the day. Niccolos bestfriend, Brando, was in the seat beside me. We spoke sometimes but I was still getting to know everyone.
"Do you understand any of this?" He asked me, a confused look on his face.
I shook my head, "I honestly have no clue how to do any of this. What question are you on? I might be able to help you." I asked him.
He chuckled softly and showed me his paper, "Number thirty-five."
I proceeded to help him a bit. I felt his gaze on me most of the time. I don't think he even looked at the paper once. I looked up from his paper and met his gaze, "Got it?"
He nodded his head, "Yeah, got it. Thanks." He thanked me, smiling. His smile was adorable. Some people called him brace-face but I loved his braces. I thought his smile was the cutest thing ever. It was so pure and contagious.
I smiled softly and looked back at my paper. I found myself thinking of him all class period. It was weird. Brando gave me this odd feeling in my stomach. I thought he was sort of cute. He was sweeter than any other one of Niccolo's friends.
Soon, the bell rang. Class was over so we put our stuff in our bags and walked out to the halls. I always walked to our group with Brando. It was nice to get some one on one time with him. But then, we were thrown right back into the storm of our friend group. There was a good amount of people. I usually stuck close to Niccolo or Brando. It was usually Brando though because Niccolo's stupid girlfriend would get annoyed by me being there. She wasn't here today though so I stood beside Niccolo.
"So Naomi, has Niccolo taken you to any of Romes best sights yet? Or does he keep you in the house cause he doesn't want people to see his little American treasure?" Vittorio laughed. He had always gotten on my nerves.
"Uh no, he hasn't taken me anywhere yet." I responded uncomfortably.
"Oh really now? Don't worry, I'll take you places, beautiful." His smirked as he said this. I knew there was some stupid sexual innuendo behind his words. The whole group erupted into laughter except Niccolo.
He rolled his eyes and glared at Vittorio, "I'll take her wherever the hell I want, when I want." He growled.
Vittorio grinned at his words, "Don't get all possessive on me, Nico. I won't take your little American prize. She's yours. But how would Virginia feel knowing you care so much about another girl?"
I blushed as he called me Niccolo's "American prize." Niccolos jaw clenched and he stayed silent. The rest of the group went on talking and laughing. I glanced over at Niccolo then at the ground. His girlfriend was always a sore subject. Everyone knew he didn't love her besides her. It was sad. The boys always said he should just break up with her but he said he couldn't. It would start too much drama. It was all too complicated to me.
AFTER SCHOOL, 3:45 PM,SCHOOL
School had just ended. I grabbed my things and said goodbye to some people I knew. When I was walking down the hallway, I ran into Brando. It turns out we were going the same way. We started talking a bit as we walked. He said the dorkiest joke and I couldn't help but laugh.
He smiled and looked at me like I was crazy, "I'm not that funny, Naomi."
I shook my head and tried to stop laughing. We walked out of the front doors of the school but I was still laughing. I saw Niccolo out of the corner of my eye, watching us. I was finally able to stop.
"I'm sorry, I just find everything funny. It's like a disease or something." I explained to him jokingly.
He chuckled a bit and nodded his head, "Let's hope it has a cure."
I was about to respond then Niccolo grabbed my arm. "Come on, let's go. My mother is waiting." He said, his tone flat.
I turned around and gave him an annoyed look. Brando gave me an awkward wave goodbye. We both knew Niccolo had broke the moment. I tugged my arm away once we had walked for a little bit.
"What the hell is your problem?" I asked him, my tone upset. He stopped walking and pushed me against the wall of the school.
"You talking with Brando is my problem. Have you guys fucked yet? Hm? Is that what you plan on doing? Answer my fucking questions." He scowled.
I looked up at him with a confused look on my face. "What the hell are you talking about? I'm not a fucking whore. Is that how you see me? Just another whore?" I scoffed and shook my head. "I'm not like all the other sluts you hang around so don't get confused. Now let's go. Like you said, your mother is waiting." I seethed. I pushed him off me and started to walk.
I felt tears brim at my eyes but I quickly swallowed the feeling down. Niccolo was always so weird to me. Why didn't he like me talking to Brando? I thought he wanted nothing to do with me? He confused me more than anyone else.
