(pronounced Kali)

Being a knight is hard work. Being the chief knight is even harder. Even the most trained and determined individuals would find knighthood challenging. There was always this impression that being a knight was about vanquishing enemies and saving the distressed. While that is one of the main reasons why being a knight is challenging, it is not the only one. For instance, knights also function as guards for the ruler when they aren't on quests to do his bidding.

Kaleigh was born to be a knight. From an early age, he was selected to be trained and take over the mantel of being Salem's chief knight. He had the training for it. He could do it pretty well as he proved himself time and time again ever since Lord Nidal ascended the throne.

But some moments he feels underprepared. Like today, he stood beside Nidal adjusting his dreads anxiously. They were to attend breakfast with the other royals soon. It was a mandatory event to establish connections. He was definitely worried about his impression. The other man, opposingly looked quite calm and composed.

What worried him the most is that the previous night of the ball, some grave misunderstandings occurred. Nidal was not supposed to dance with Rajkumari Bela. Yet he did, without a thought. Then the both of them messed around in the garden like toddlers. God forbid somebody saw them. If somebody questioned them he had to come up with a response. And now it was his role to cook up excuses to tell Salem's council later when they asked about their whereabouts.

"Calm down, it's just brunch." Nidal comforted with a hand on his bicep. "You can skip if you want."

"That will raise more questions than answers, I must attend." He replied seriously. He extended his arm towards the doorway. It was about time they showed up. He pushed open the door to reveal a magnificent dining room with all the royals present. There was a long table in the middle with various brunch options. Smaller tables stood at the sides. A hush descended upon the room as Lord Nidal entered with a grin. Some of the royals stood up in greeting and some older ones nodded in their seat.

Kaleigh tried judging Heiress Reagan's expression but he couldn't discern the blank expression on her face. He prayed to all the gods listening that the meal would go well.
