Bela stood in the sunlight, wearing a light pink saree and soaking in the sun. Dhriti was in front of her, arranging her hunting outfit and her spear.
Dhriti was Bela's best friend and they both grew up quite close. She was also the daughter of one of the ministers of her father's court. Apart from being close to Bela, she was also the companion to Mandodari. Her father being the finance minister, she was an apt advisor to the future queen.
She had come to Salem in the night to help Mandodari in the boar hunting competition, as it traditionally involved rulers and their companions.
"I should've practiced." She mumbled.
"You shall be fine." Bela comforted her with a hand on her shoulder. "Manu will protect you and I'm sure Salem would just track their own boar before the rest of us."
"I'm hoping for the same." She confessed. "I am not a warrior."
"Dhriti, are you ready?" Manu came up behind them with a mace at her belt. "I hope you've practiced your spear throw."
"Yes..." She exchanged a secret glance with Bela, who gave her an encouraging smile. She wrapped her arm around the Rajkumari's shoulders. "That animal could be as good as dead in our hands."
"Good, I don't want another instance of you running off because you came across a harmless deer." Manu spoke drily.
"That beast was attacking me!" Dhriti defended, "Bela would take my side." The two women attacked their gazes to the innocent woman.
"I wasn't with you both that day." She blinked. "I still believe this incident never happened."
"It happened!" They both jabbed in unison.
"I'm quite sure none of you know how to sneak in a forest deep enough to meet a deer." She spoke matter-of-factly. "You argue too loud."
"No we don't!" They saw Bela's raised eyebrow and snuffed their voices.
The three women stood with many other royals, getting ready for Salem's annual boar hunt. Bela moved her gaze around the field. All the royals meant a certain someone would be here too.
