Picking a martial art can be tricky: alot of dojos are overpriced, some are scams and some don't deliver on what they claim to teach.
You should choose a martial art based on your body type: if your muscular and very strong go with Greco-Roman wrestling. If you have lot's of cardio go with boxing or bjj. If your fat go with sumo wrestling. If your tall go with kickboxing or muay thai.
When I was a kid, I use to think karate and taekwondo were cool because I would see it in action movies all the time but in real life all that fancy stuff isn't going to work on the streets.
Realistically, the grappling arts are going to be your best bet for surviving on the streets. Wrestling, bjj and even elements of muay that are better suited for the streets. Krav Maga is very effective too ( they know what's up) Krav Maga instructors even teach which pressure points to hit to take someone down
