It was a dark, cold night within the realm of Pruina, the realm of the far north. Snow fell from the cloudy sky above before quickly melting from the heat of multiple open flames from a town in the middle of being attacked. An army of bandits were attacking it from nearly all directions, setting houses on fire, forcing the women and children outside in groups while putting down anyone that tried to fight back.
“Hurry it up! I don’t want to be here when either the knights or the Phobos arrive!” One of the bandits called out as they seemed to be gathering any and all valuables from the homes before burning them. As all of this was happening, a young, cloaked short woman starts walking towards the edge of town, meeting three guards.
“Hey! Who the hell are you?” One of them demanded as they all aimed their guns towards the covered woman. She doesn’t really respond before the bandit that spoke gestured for another to go restrain the new girl. But she quickly shot up into the air above the guards, her cloak getting blown off as she showed off a full white and blue combat suit, matching her long white and blue hair.
“Goodbye.” She says with a bit of a smile on her face as she looks down with her purple eyes. A purple & yellow fluid flowed from the back of her suit, through her sleeve & gauntlet to create a long lance. The young woman throws the lance down, blasting all three of the guards into nearby buildings, knocking them all out. This of course caught the attention of most of the nearby bandits, resulting in them running in that direction. But by the time they arrived, the woman was nowhere to be seen as she had used the yellow fluid flowing into her pants & boots to run at a blinding speed towards the bandits holding the hostages.
“What the hell?” One of them exclaims as she creates two crimson curved daggers which she uses with her super speed to cut right through their guns in half, making the metal glow red from how the daggers seemed to burn through them before she knocked them out.
“Go! Get out of here!” She calls out to the hostages as she throws her daggers at several incoming bandits, sticking into the ground next to them before exploding like grenades. Green fluid flows through her left sleeve before it creates a long bow within her hand. She gives the fleeing hostages covering fire, shooting one arrow after another at the bandits. Each one seems to be like mini tornadoes, blowing away any enemy they hit.
“Get her!” The bandits seem to now ignore the fleeing villagers & concentrate their efforts against the young woman. Firing their guns at her, destroying her bow & forcing her to duck for cover. She takes a few deep breaths before she creates two more daggers before running out with her lightning speed, throwing one dagger after another at the bandits. This strategy helped keep her right out of their gunfire, but also allows her to use her exploding daggers to take out multiple enemies with each throw. But this strategy is soon ruined as a large bandit punches the woman, knocking her off her feet.
“Hehe got you now.” She looks up to see the large man, being almost double her size as instead of using a gun, he’s using some strange dark blue gauntlets. “Block any and all of her exits, I’ll kill her myself.” This surprises the woman that there’s a bandit that looks way stronger than all the others.
“May I have this dance?” She asks as a light blue fluid flows through her legs before a sheet of ice over the ground, not only making multiple bandits slip and fall, but also make it so the main bandit she’s up against is a bit off balanced. As some of the bandits fall, this makes some of them accidentally shoot a few allies, creating a bit of chaos within their ranks.
“You idiots!” She smiled to see their confusion & fully planned to take advantage of it by tossing a flame dagger in the middle of the ice sheet which when it explodes creates a large smokescreen. This creates even more confusion for the bandits as the woman prepares for her counterstrike.
‘Alright. Come on. Stay in control. Just slightly open the box.’ She thinks to herself as she makes purple & black fluid flow through her whole combat suit. Her eyes start to deepen into a dark shade of red while the whites of her eyes & hair turn black. Everything becomes fuzzy for her, her vision takes a red hue, her mind becomes blank. The bandits' screams start to echo throughout the town, their guns firing seemingly wildly as they were attacked.
The woman's body & suit eventually turns back to normal as she breathes heavily looking around like she had just awakened from a deep sleep. Her eyes started to fill with terror as her hands & body were covered in blood, but as she looked about she found that it wasn’t just the bandits that she had attacked, but the villagers as well.
“No… no no no!” She falls to her knees crying as she failed the people she was trying to protect. As she cries an airship starts to land nearby, robotic black knights exit and look around for the aggressors of the attack.
“Pandora!” This name caught her attention as she looked back to see a man run up and give her a tight hug. “Are you alright? Why did you come here?” He asked with concern, filling his words.
“Sorry dad, I-I thought I could save them.”
“D-did you use it?” She just nodded to him which made him sigh before helping her to her feet. “I keep telling you that you shouldn’t use it, what if they had seen you?”
“I know dad… I-I just thought.”
“I know my dear. I know.” He starts to help her towards the ship wrapping his jacket over her as he does so. “Pilot, get us out of here, the black knights will take care of the rest and inform the military that there’s a powerful phobos nearby.” With that said the ship began to take off, leaving the destroyed town behind as Pan stared at it with saddened eyes as they flew off.
“You still want to help people don’t you?”
“Y-yes. But it doesn’t seem to be meant to be.” She says as tears start to flow from her eyes again. “I… killed people, dad… innocent people.” Her dad sat there in silence, wrapping an arm around Pan to comfort her.
“It wasn’t your fault, your animus has always been a mystery for us to understand.”
“Am I a monster?”
“No no , absolutely not!” He says as he holds Pan’s face within his hands, looking directly into her eyes. “You are not a monster, you just need some help to go down the path that you want to go down.”
“W-what do you mean?”
“I know how much you’ve looked up to the sentinels of Pruina. What would you say if I said I could arrange for you to go to one of the sentinel academies?”
“W-wait what? Really? Are you serious?” She asked as she started to wipe away the tears from her face as her father removed his hands from her, nodding to all of her questions. “B-but why? I don’t deserve to be one of humanity's defenders.”
“You shouldn’t think that way, Pan. Just because you can’t control your power at the moment, you’ve proven that the combat suit that you designed & built completely on your own makes up for it.” As she listened to him speak, she lightly set a hand upon one of her gauntlets. “And not only that, your desire to help others literally results in you breaking the rules to go & save lives.” She chuckles a bit at how she had run away from home to save the village.
“I just don’t feel like I am worthy or good enough to be a sentinel.”
“Then go out and prove to yourself and others that you are.” He says as they both look at each other. “No matter what you decide to do, whatever makes you happy, just remember I will always be there to support you.”
“Thanks dad.” She gives a small smile as she gives him a tight hug. “You’re welcome my sweet sweet girl.” He kisses the top of her head as he hugs her back. “So what do you say? Want to start your path of becoming a sentinel?” She rapidly nods in almost excitement at the idea.
“Though am I going to the one in Pruina?”
“No, as much as I would like for you to study in Pruina, it is too militaristic and most sentinels that study there just end up joining the army instead of really being sentinels.”
“Sooo then where am I going?” He starts to think for a few seconds before getting a small smile.
“How about the one in the Lympha Realm?” This made Pan’s eyes go wide in excitement at the thought which made her father chuckle at her response. “I know how much you’ve loved the coast.”
“Yes! I love it! Thank you dad!”
