In another section of Olympia, within the mansion of one of the most powerful families in all of Natura, a young woman with curved white horns on her head sits in her bed with a purple and pink quitar in hand. As she slowly plays, her white with black tipped tail hangs over the beds edge while her bluish green eyes look at the end of the bed. Sitting within it is an icy blue bastard sword with a blue rose in the middle of the crossguard with the equally blue scabbard sitting parallel with the blade.
‘It’ll be okay Rina. You can do this.’ She thinks to herself, using the music of the guitar to try to keep herself calm as she awaits for something to happen. Which soon happened as turned towards her rooms door as it was opening. A female servant entered, wearing a black and white suit, black gloves, and black make up with shoulder length white hair coming from her head.
“Lady Rina, she’s ready.”
“Thank you Tiana.” Rina responded as she set the guitar on her bed before she pulled on a white and black jacket. This jacket has four colorful beasts on it, on the front was a yellow dragon and a green tiger with a red eagle and a light blue turtle on the back. Then she secures her swords scabbard to her belt before taking a deep breath and sliding her long blade into its home.
“Ready Lady Rina?” She nods before she starts to follow Tiana through the white hallways, her tennis shoes patting against the cold looking floor. Painted images hang on the wall with windows covering the other wall to allow the moonlight to shine through. The pair eventually walk past what would look like a museum with a gigantic 1
statue in the center of it. It was made out of marble and shows a large, towering cobra looking creature with multiple spines on its body with a blade-like tip on its tail.
After walking for several minutes, Tiana finally opens a door for Rina for her to enter a large training arena. Her heart beated heavily within her chest as she stepped up, seeing another woman standing on the other end of the chamber.
“Rina. Do you understand why I set this up?” The woman asked as she stood there in white and gold armor with a black suit underneath, thigh high boots hugging her legs, and a shield strapped to her left arm.
“No sister.”
“Father already decided that you will be going to the sentinel academy in Lympha. But I want to see if you can handle being there by yourself. For any mistakes you make, it will reflect poorly on the Pearl family and its company. Do you understand?”
“Yes sister.”
“Good.” Rina’s older sister said before she extended a long blade from the bracer over her right arm. “Show me that you will not disgrace this family!” As her voice boomed across the chamber, she rushed forward with surprising speed. Rina quickly drew her sword and block her sisters sword, the clang ringing throughout the room.
“Lady Glacies, is it really so wise to be so rough with your adopted sister?” Tiana asked as she stood next to the door Rina had entered from, watching Glacies swiftly kick Rina in the gut, sending her flying backwards.
“She will be sent to a school for training sentinels as a representative of the Pearl family. I will not allow for any weakness!” She continued her assault, swinging her blade through the air, making 2
Rina jump backwards to be out of range. But even though she was safe from the blade, Glacies sent a slash of ice, striking Rina with immense force. Luckily Rina was able to block it again with her sword but it was obvious that Glacies wasn’t going to give her any chance to breathe.
‘Damn. I have to succeed.’ Rina thought to herself as she taps her foot on the floor, creating a glowing rune that catapulted her through the air away from her opponent.
“Oh no you don’t! You won’t run away from this!” She points her blade towards the ceiling, creating her own rune which shot a blast of cold wind that felt like a giant fist that punched Rina down upon the ground. The cold of the wind sent so much chills through Rina’s body, almost sapping all of the strength from her.
‘I can’t take many more of those!’ Her mind was filled with so many thoughts, panicking about what could work against her more experienced older sister. ‘What can I do? What can I do?’ She looks up and sees Glacies rushing towards her, trying to think quickly, the bird on her back starts to glow with red energy. Surprising herself as all of the cold within her starts to disappear, reminding her of the elements her birth families jacket was infused with.
‘Thank you mother.’ She quickly got up and dodged another ice slash from Glacies blade, managing to get to safety for the moment. ‘I will make you proud.’ A sort of determination started to grow within her as she made multiple runes down the center of her blade before she spun around, doing her first genuine attack. However her sister saw this coming, creating her own runes upon her blade in response to the upcoming clash. Time almost seemed to slow down before the pair, clashed swords, the energies created an icy explosion upon impact, knocking them both back almost to opposite sides of the arena from one another.
“I’m sorry Glacies, but I refuse to be used as a punching bag.” Rina said as a massive rune circle appeared on the floor behind her, the determination clear in her eyes.
“Believe it or not, I’m rough on you because this world is unforgiving as I’m certain you are fully aware of.” Glacies words echoed throughout Rina’s mind as images from her past shot through her very being. Images of a woman looking very much like her except for black hair with wolf ears and tail as she seemed to hide a younger Rina, somewhere around six to seven years old, in a closet.
“Stay here and remain as quiet as you can no matter what you hear. Okay dear?” The woman asked as she wrapped Rina’s animal jacket around her small body. “I love you so very much and I will always be with you.” She gives a comforting smile with tears running from her eyes before closing the closet as the door to the room seemed to get broken through. Rina just listens as several aggressive people run in and attack the woman, making tears flow from her eyes.
“Let this be a lesson to the rest of your kind. Die.” Rina was able to see through the door to just see a cane with a glowing orb with yellow energy before the woman is struck with lightning. This seemed to snap herself out of her flashback, seeing that she just seemed stunned in place and came back just in time to watch Glacies rush right next to her. Her blade slashed across Rina’s torso, but instead of cutting her, an ice slash appeared, freezing Rina in mid air almost like a sculpture.
‘N-no… I failed.’ She thought to herself as the bird on her jacket starts to glow red again, melting the ice around her. ‘I-I’m sorry mom. I failed you again.’ It took a bit but she eventually was free again as she sat on the floor against a wall, looking disappointed with her tail wrapped around her. Tiana stood nearby, looking down at the young woman.
“Lady Rina, you should go take a bath and warm up again.” “That’s enough Tiana, you’re dismissed.” Glacies said as she walked towards Rina with her blade retracted again, having the same sort of blank expression she usually has. “You had another panic attack and froze in the middle of combat.”
“I know. I’m sorry sister.” She just looks down feeling her sister's disappointment. “The words you said to me just hit a nerve.” “You need to be able to stay focused while in combat. If I truly wanted to, I could’ve killed you with the opening you gave me.” Though Glacies was very cold with how she said her words, Rina knew she was giving her advice that should help her out. “I know you have skills especially with your runes, but if you panic, it doesn’t matter if you can’t snap back to the task at hand, understood?”
“Yes sister, I understand.”
“Good. Do stay in contact with father when you’re in Lympha, you know how he can be when disappointed.” These words seemed to confuse Rina as she looked up towards her sister.
“Y-you’re still letting me go even though I lost?”
“You were going no matter what happened here, it’s fathers decision after all, just make sure to be strong, show no weakness especially against your enemies because they will take advantage in a heartbeat.” Rina nodded as she watched Glacies begin to walk away. “Now go get warmed up before you get ready to leave, it’ll be a long flight to the coast realm.”
“Thank you Glacies.” Her sister waves goodbye as Rina stands up and leaves, nervous for what the future holds as she walks. “I know I failed you again mother, but I will become strong. Then I will never fail you or my new family ever again.” The bird glows again, making her feel like her mother was giving a warm hug.
