There was no way in hell I would be doing my senior project with The Nerd. I already have enough to do with baseball season in full swing and now to add a stupid project to this. I don't think so.
Today when I walked up to my English class, the list was posted with our partners. Of course our wonderful teachers had to assign partners. At first I thought it would be okay, I mean I could just talk my way out of it. But Ms. Stick-up-her-ass said I had to be mature about it and stick with my assigned partner. This project wasn't something we could just BS either. The teachers decided to be complex and shit, and now we're doing some sort of 'community project'.
So here I am on a perfectly good Friday afternoon, fresh out of baseball practice, headed towards the local library to work on the project. I was pulling up to a stoplight with my music blasting through my speakers when my phone began to ring.
"Hello," I answered not checking the caller i.d.
"Hey Babe, you coming to the party tonight?" A girl asked. I pulled the phone away from my ear checking the caller I.D. 'Stephanie'.
"I'll see Steph I have a project I'm working on."
"Ok babe, but try to make it. I don't want to get bored." She purred. I made a face of disgust at her tone. She really was desperate.
"I'm sure you'll entertain yourself, you always do," I said pulling into the parking lot. I heard her gasp on the other end.
"Whatever," she snapped.
"Bye, 'Babe'," I said hanging up. Some of these girls really got on my nerves.
I began to rummage through my bag looking for a notebook and other stuff I would need. Once I was situated I exited my car and headed into the library. It was a decent size, with high ceilings and arched isles. I went to the front desk to see if she had came in yet.
"Hello," I said to the lady. She looked up from her papers and smiled at me.
"Hi Honey, what can I help you with?"
"Well, I was wondering if you've seen a girl come in? She's about 5'3, very petite, has dirty blonde hair pulled into a bun, and um... wears nerdy glasses?" I asked.
"Do you mean Brianna, Honey?" She said with a little laugh. My eyebrows pulled together in confusion.
Brianna. Brianna. Was that her name? I thought it was Brittany.
"Um... yeah. I guess."
"No, Honey." She said, "She hasn't come in yet." I let out a small sigh trying not to show that I was annoyed.
"Okay," i said, "can you tell her that Xavier said he will be at the table in the back." She gave me a small nod
"Okay thanks," I said turning on my heel. As I got to the back of the library I pulled out my phone to check out the time, '4:45'. The Nerd told me to meet her here at 5:30. I sighed and took a seat in one of the chairs tossing my stuff on the table.
Coach had let us out thirty minutes early and now I had nothing to do. I sighed again lifting myself out of my chair. I began to make my way through the aisles looking for something interesting. As I was walking through one, one book stuck out. It looked new compared to the other books. It was a hard cover missing its protective sleeve. I pulled it off the shelf to read the title, 'They All Looked Up'. I opened it to the first page and began to read. Soon I was indulged in the book I took a seat at the bottom of the shelf and continued reading. I lost track as I got lost in the book, and was only pulled back when I heard someone calling me.
