Chapter 15

Inside the infirmary,

Peter and Shima were observing Rhodey having a full body scan through the glass of the x-ray room. Luckily, for the general, he was still alive though unable to walk normally again due to the 'accident' happened in the Civil War between the Avengers.

"Shima."

"Yeah."

"Do you think this place can help Rhodey get back to his normal?"

"I don't think their technologies are advanced enough to completely heal him. Not from what I've seen."

"How's about your magic? Can it do something?"

"Pete, magic is not absolute. What I've learnt can help mentally but not physically. His injury will stay the same, the difference is he uses magic to move around. However, it only happens in the case he becomes a sorcerer."

"So, there's no chance?"

"In the time being... no."

"(sigh) God dammit. If only I have Category 9 ♥ now. I can recover him from his condition."

(Category 9 ♥ - Camel Undead: allow user to heal injuries)

"This was an accident that no one expected during the fight. Even you can't change what happened."

"But I can prevent it. If only I stopped them in time."

"Pete. It's not your fault. You've already warned them about the consequences but they didn't listen. You even interfered in the fight. You've done enough."

"Really? I think not. I still can do so much more."

"No matter how hard you try, it will not change anything. Better to stop now. This is no longer your battle, they are the ones who ended it."

Peter acknowledged it well. He knew that this accident wasn't his fault but he could not accept it. Deep down, he felt that he had needed to take some responsibility for what happened. All because of his nature, he was too kind, too greedy when thinking that he could help everyone but the truth, he couldn't take care of himself, let alone take care of others.

Peter might be a strong warrior, a tough opponent but still that had not changed what he truly was, a man with pure heart that used his eyes full of kindness to look at the cruel world. People might call him stupid for keeping that childish thought but they didn't know why he was so determined in his path.

Too many worlds Peter had gone through, too many terrible things he had seen. People killed everyone around them just to be alive; those who sacrificed their loved ones just to have power/ fame/ money; some left their madness took over in order to turn their worlds into chaos and corrupted... But even in the darkest night, there would still be a small light which was willing to shine bright when its perfect time came. Only with that single reason had given him enough purpose to continue trying. Despite the humiliation from those who had been giving him, he remained resolute on the path he had chosen.

"You're right, Shima. I put too much pressure on myself."

"Glad that you understand."

"But this stupid war must end and I am going to interfere. Whether they want or not."

"So. What are you gonna do?"

"First thing first. I need to see Tony."

Peter took a one last look at Rhodey through the glass before walking to the exit door. He decided to meet with Tony and hear his thoughts on this futile battle, as well as observe his reaction, before deciding whether to encourage the great Iron Man to quit or to teach him a genuine lesson until he thoroughly comprehended the problem.
