Chapter 1: Like The Muggles Do

Uncontrollable sobbing filled his ears,"I don't- I don't want to--"

"Severus dear, are your bags packed?" His mother flitted into the doorway as his eyelids shot open.

"Yeah, where's Lily?"

"She sent an owl a little while ago saying she just left and was coming to pick you up. Go get dressed." His mum left the room, without looking at him.

He got up and crossed his dirty broken down room. Sunlight streamed in through the tattered curtains which attempted to shelter him from the summer breeze pushing through the shattered window. His footsteps creaked across the partially torn up wooden floor.

He felt a pang of guilt as he remembered he didn't have his wand. At least until he was inside Hogwarts. Severus wrapped a bottle of unopened Vodka in his pajamas.

He knew he'd get beaten for taking his dad's alcohol next time he was home. He planned to push it off till next summer, and so he put his innocent looking pajamas in the trunk and extracted his robes.

By the time he was dressed and ready to go, he heard a familiar female voice call his name through the so-thin-how-are-they-standing walls.

After everything had been settled and Severus's mum had hugged him, (Severus noted how she didn't kiss him goodbye like usual) she gave Lily his wand.

"Make sure the teachers are on close watch before you return my dear son's wand, love." She put gently, blowing a kiss to my friend who in return did the same. Then the beautifully clean car rolled out of our makeshift driveway. Another pang of guilt for the loss of his wand.

The feast ended not too long ago, but Severus only knew that because a bunch of tired Slytherins (surprisingly too tired to make Severus jump when they say jump) filed upstairs shortly past ten.

Empty stomach and awake mind, plus being the last in the common room calls for some experimentation. Sadly Lily had taken his wand while she was telling the teachers he needed to be watched. In the end he made up his mind,"Guess we're going to have to do this just like the muggles do."

He sighed as he searched through his school bag until he found an object sharp enough to his liking, which ended up being a broken potions bottle. Making sure there was no residue on his weapon, he dragged it across his skin several times in a row.

He watched in odd fascination as five beads of blood rolled down his arm. Catching as much blood as he could in an empty ink jar before his wounds closed up. Surprisingly he had filled the jar halfway. Sadly, Severus thought, I have a high pain tolerance. He figured he needed to find something else to bother himself.

What do I hate more than anything else? He mused.

"James," Severus growled outloud. He was smug now saying his words enemy's first name, but never in front of Potter.

How could anybody love that rich brat? He lives a comfortable, happy life. So pampered . . . He thought bitterly. Then it struck him.

He could start up his old 'fan'-fiction business. In short, he would write stories about his classmates being together in 1st through 3rd year. (Though he'd only write about relationships he liked, for example him and Lily. Weird how time can change your view on things.) Severus could write stories about him and Potter . . . Together . . . And sell his work anonymously, then use the money to buy more ink and Vodka. Maybe a real knife too.

He picked up his quill and realized he had no ink, so like every normal teenager would, he dipped the quill tip into his blood and scribbled the beginning words down before pausing to study the beautifully scrawled inscription. The quill glided easier than ever and the darkening red colour was stunning.

He could work with this.
