Chapter 2: Contemptuous Feelings

"Sirius, what the hell," James doubled over in laughter, thinking what his best friend said was a joke.

"What? All I'm saying is guys are kinda hot." Sirius chuckled sheepishly. When James came back up he saw the red tint on his friend's face and realized he wasn't joking.

"Y-you're a fruit?" He uttered in an unconvinced whimper.

"Not just any, I'm your fruit," Sirius whispered, James had never seen padfoot so unsure about anything. Let alone worrying about someone else's opinion. It was honestly scary and James wanted this to end immediately.

"Oh, er . . . I don't think anything is wrong with that. But, I also don't see the appeal." James stated bluntly,"I mean, look at me-"

Sirius almost immediately grinned. Mission successful."Should we go to class today?"

"MOONY! Are you going to class today?" James shouted across the Gryffindor common room, using his hand as a makeshift megaphone. Remus flipped him off as Wormtail came running up.

"I'll just be doing whatever you guys are doing." The short dirty-blonde boy squeaked.

"I'm only going to muggle studies." James yawned..

"I think I'm going with Moony, but I can skip if you want me to."

"No, I'm just going back to bed again. Like usual." He always did have something as an excuse to get away from his friends for a while. He wasn't introverted, but sometimes they were too much. Wormtail expecially. Though this time he was serious. Last night had been sleepless because somehow he had already landed in detention. Something about not setting Filch's desk on fire.

James had been the last in the classroom. Late, the best teacher in the world berated him for. There was only one spot left, at the front of the room. And if that wasn't bad enough, it was right next to Snivelous.

He sat down begrudgingly, though the greasy haired boy next to him didn't notice. He was too immersed in his work.

Cute.

He watched him etch lines into his workbook with a rich glistening black ink. Though, now that he was looking, it seemed more of a dark red than a black.

James turned his focus back to the teacher. He talked on about muggle literature.

"A common theme for muggle books is a trope in which characters catch 'contemptuous feelings' for each other," The teacher drawled on,"They say they hate one another, when in reality . . ."

It was around then that he stopped listening. He looked back over to see Snivelous, his head was resting on his hand, elbow planted to the table, while held onto his hair. Which was falling in messy strands over his shoulders. The rather annoying Slytherin boy chewed on the corners of his delicate pink lips. James couldn't help himself from wondering how Snape was so pale.

James picked up the ink bottle Snape was using, observing the thick dark liquid within. It looked pequliarly like blood. He heard a clack and turned to see a startled Snivelous, quill tip pointed down in the spot where his ink used to be.

The surprise on his face quickly turned to a fidgety anger once he saw who was in possession of his ink bottle. James just looked down at him smirking, a giddy excitement filling his veins.

"Oh, is this yours?" James asked in mock curiosity, voice barely above a whisper.

"Give it back," He gritted through his teeth.

"Where'd you buy this anyway? It seems tacky, you need some better ink."

Snivelous seemed more skittish with that remark,"Not everyone can afford high end ink, rich-boy." he growled with a sneer, though he seemed to be studying his notes with an occupied manner.

James took a sniff of the ink, and got a whiff of a strong metallic smell. He was confused. He looked at the now cowering boy, silently asking him a series of questions: Who's blood is this? And why are you using it to write?

Though, James already had a few assumptions. And by the way Snivelous shamefully glanced at the floor, he knew he was right. His blood. And a lack of money.

Though he'd rather die, he felt a pang of sadness for him. He decided not to pester him about it anymore.
