I open the main double door of my father's bakery and I am greeted by the sweet smell of baked scornes, muffins and every delicious cake you can think of. It smells very sweet in here.
I missed my dad and being here sometimes - from talking to customers and convincing them to try our newest additions to the menu, I miss walking up and down on hectic and busiest days of the year in this bakery.
I miss helping out in the kitchen and making my own extra money whilst I was still in high school. But I'm glad I'm doing teaching because baking is not my thing.
I look around and see that Rebecca, who is the bakery manager is pre-occupied and I am glad because then she wont notice me as I slowly walk past the busy area, up the stairs and go straight to my dad's office on the second floor.
When I reach my father's office I knock and before my dad can even answer, I open the door to let myself in and I'm surprised to find him already changed from his normal "bakery" outfits to a more suit and tie outfit.
He is already looking at me and then he gets up from his chair and walks around his big mahogany desk to greet me with a very warm and welcoming hug.
"Daddy" I say while hugging him back.
"Amber, my big girl. How was work today?" He looks at me hoping I'll say something negative.
"It was good, not much to do anyways, we're finished with the term" I say, looking straight in his eyes.
"Alright, good then. I'm sure you know I'm taking my wife to a date night, she told you right?" He asks.
"Yes, mom told me. I was there when you called her " I remind him.
" Yes, forgive me. I have a lot going on today", he says laughing.
He is still standing but I pull back a chair to take a seat and he walks back to sit on his too, so we're looking at each other seated on the opposite sides of his large desk.
" I feel like a teenager, your mom does that to me sometimes. It's been over 20 years and she still bosses me around " he says and we both laugh out loud.
We both stop laughing when a tall figure bargies inside his office without knocking first.
I thought his staff knew that was against the rules.
My dad drags his eyes away from me and they land on the figure which I assume - is standing directly behind me and I quickly turn my head around to look back up too.
But before I get the chance to check him out, brown eyes are already staring down at me while I'm seated on my chair. I don't back down so I just look at him, not breaking the eye contact.
What a rude bastard !
My father gets up from his chair to go and greet the man - a bit of surprise not missing on his face. This face looks familiar - like I have seen him before but I don't know where. He breaks eye contact with me and looks at my father as he is walking closer to him.
The least you can do is to smile at him, rude boy.
" Dean, you do know I was expecting you
earlier on today not this late " my dad smiles at the man whom I never noticed when I first turned to look at him while sitting down from my chair, is actually very handsome.Maybe it's because he is now smiling and I can tell he is not older than thirty. I shift in my chair trying to take this in.
When my dad is finally standing in front of him, they shake hands and hug each other in the cold, quick and casual way that men usually do.
