Vera

My eyes shot open and I quickly sat up out of bed, damn near coughing my lungs out. I rubbed my eyes then patted down my body.

The fuck- My clothes are wet!

"Good, you're up," Katherine muttered, yanking the soaked blanket off of me.

I wipe the blurriness and sleep from my eyes, finally looking over at Katherine who had a now empty bucket in her hand.

"The hell did you do that for?" I groaned, wiping my eyes again.

"Watch your mouth, Vera. The house is a mess and you need to clean it. And your damn phone kept ringing, it was giving me a headache."

"So... So you throw water on me?" I ask in disbelief, staring at her as if she had two heads.

"Don't question me. Now, hurry it up."

I flinched back when she tossed the bucket behind her as she walked out of my room, shutting the door after her. There's no doubt that there was a vein threatening to burst in my forehead as I stared at the door. This woman proves everyday how insane she actually is and everyday I'm surprised that I am not in a straitjacket yet.

Morning is already starting off terribly.

Luckily, I had already planned on showering, so I now have another reason to do so. Before the evil queen decides to storm up here again, I strip out my wet clothes and shove them into their own bag instead of putting them with the rest of my dirty clothes. I started up the shower then stepped inside once it was hot enough, washing my body down then my hair.

Another lecture from Katherine is not needed.

I gently massaged my scalp, raking shampoo in my hair through the process. When Katherine's yelling could be heard from up here, I groaned out and rinsed my hair before adding conditioner. That process had to be rushed since she continued to yell, rushing me to come downstairs.

"A damn witch, I tell ya," I grumble to myself, wrapping a towel around my body and moving back into my room.

After quickly drying myself off, I threw on a tee shirt and sweats since I was being forced to clean anyway. As I made my way to the door, my phone rang loudly and I had to take a deep breath before picking it up to answer it.

"What?" I muttered, rubbing my temples.

"The witch woke you up, huh?" Jesse chuckled.

"That obvious, huh? The woman threw a bucket of water on me. Water, Jesse," I emphasized, running a hand through my hair.

"Ew... you have wet bed sheets now."

"That's besides the point. Actually... Did you leave early this morning?" I asked, finally making my way downstairs.

"I was forced out by your dear old Aunt. Wasn't too happy to see me in her house, I guess."

"God, I'm sorry Jesse," I sighed. "At least you got some rest before she stormed in."

"I did- oh! My mom brought Aiden to school today. I had a feeling you were going to sleep in."

I sighed with a smile. "Tell her that she is a life-"

Katherine emerged from her room, glaring at me when she saw me on the phone. I whispered a quick goodbye and promised to call Jesse back before hanging up and shoving my phone in my pocket.

"You're busy blabbering on the phone instead of getting this place cleaned up, Vera. Get to it and do not make me repeat myself."

Clenching my jaw, I gave her a slight nod and went to the kitchen, grabbing the supplies from under the cabinet to begin. I rinsed out a few of the bags and sprayed bleach across the cabinets to scrub off dried up food and sauce from past meals.
