Draco didn't sleep that night. He contemplated several ideas for his business and reviewed what he needed to do to get himself considered emancipated. As soon as the sounds of the towers' other occupants began to creep through his curtains Draco drew them aside and gathered his clothing to get ready.

The Gryffindors seemed wary of him as they quietly readied themselves for class. Draco did not dress in his school uniform. He had to visit the ministry and Gringotts at the very least, he'd figure it out.

Draco descended the stairs into the common room. Slowly the casual conversations changed to whispers and pointing as people recognized him and his differently colored hair. There were whispers about his sorting as well as about the changed style. A few pureblooded students recognized what the new hair and lack of family rings meant, they simply stared at him, some with pity, some with satisfaction.

Draco ignored all of it. It didn't matter. Draco sighed as he started down the ever-moving staircases, he did not look forward to navigating them every time he needed to go back to the dorms. At least the dungeons' staircases never moved...

Draco stopped by McGonagall's office and classroom hoping she would be there so he wouldn't have to walk through the Great Hall and receive even more stares. Unfortunately, the old magic did not seem to be on his side. He turned and walked all the way down to Hogwart's ground floor.

Entering the Great Hall Draco made sure that he presented himself confidently and calmly. He leveled his chin and sauntered up to the head table. Technically it wasn't forbidden for students to talk to teachers but no one ever did it. Everyone's eyes were on him as he approached the table.

The professors, including the new one Draco, couldn't remember other than that she was a member of the Wizengamot, watched him as he approached. The pink toadish professor cleared her throat. "What can we help you with dear?" She said in a sickly sweet voice.

Draco bowed his head slightly, "Apologies professors, I must speak with my head of house as soon as possible." Draco said politely and glanced at McGonagall.

McGonagall opened her mouth to speak but the toad interrupted. "Oh dear, I'm sure I can help you! Mr.What was it, Malfoy? Yes? I didn't recognize you without the Malfoy's coloring!" She twittered. Draco tried to politely interrupt but she continued. "Oh yes I am a member of the Wizengmot, just like your father, you know whatever you might need I'm sure-"

Draco finally interrupted, "I am no longer a Malfoy professor." She seemed dumbstruck. Draco cleared his throat. "Which is why I must speak to my head of house at her earliest convenience."

The pink social climber couldn't get another word in before McGonagall finally took control of the conversation. "Yes, Mr. Ma- er Draco. What is it?"

Draco made eye contact for the first time so far in the conversation. "I need to take care of legal and monetary matters pertaining to my recent disownment. I need to request today off of classes, and um, use your floo?" Draco broke eye contact.

McGonagall seemed surprised. "Mr. Malf- Draco, I am sure you are aware that we as a school cannot authorize a student to go galavanting around Diagon Alley alone." She said in a slightly condescending tone.

Draco cleared his throat again. "Apologies professor, but historically disowned students have been allowed a day, sometimes two, to get their matters in order." Draco pauses, adding a tinge of his own condescending tone, "I'm sure you are aware of the legal matters that are a result of my circumstances?"

"I- Partially, yes. However, because you are a minor we are responsible for looking after your best interests. We cannot allow you to go outside school without adult supervision." She said in a stronger voice.
