The laughing echoes through the hallway of the house, radiating a warm, loving feeling. "Thank you, for helping me, dad." Vanessa smiles, holding back her giggle once again as she crouches down to take out the laundry from the washing machine. "Settle down, Nessa, no big deal." Her dad answers softly, wearing his framed golden glasses like he always does. Continuing the work he was doing, folding the clothes.

She started to hum a familiar song, the song she always heard back in the days when the pizzeria was still operating. "When you close your eyes─" Vanessa stops, waiting for a continuation, "And go to sleep." Her dad chimed in, and everything's fine.

Vanessa stared at her father for a while, how he looks oddly calm and he's smiling- as he helps her, and taking in how this moment feels. "I love you, dad." She says, and he says it in return. "Too, Nessa." And they continue in silence, the warm feeling returning. And it really, really, felt too good to be true.

Cause it never happened.

Vanessa wakes up.

And it's down to the
sound of a heartbeat,
I can hear the things that
you're dreaming about,
When you open up your heart,
And the truth comes out.
