Naru knocked on Mizuto’s front door. He opened it up and looked at her.
“You ready?” Naru asked.
“Yeah.” Mizuto nodded and walked out.
He locked the door and walked down the stairs with Naru.
“Let’s hope we don’t get caught investigating her house,” Naru said.
“Yeah, I hope so.”
Naru shuddered.
“You good?” Mizuto tilted his head.
“Yeah. It’s a bit chilly out.” Naru nodded.
“Winter is starting. Of course it’s gonna get chilly.” Mizuto chuckled.
“Shut up.” Naru rolled her eyes.
They both stopped. Mizuto looked inside the broken-down house that used to belong to Azu. Naru looked at Mizuto. Mizuto stared at the broken window that made it look like somebody broke in. Mizuto walked down the path that lead to the front door. He took a deep breath as he gently wrapped his hand around the doorknob and turned it. It didn’t budge.
“It’s locked,” Mizuto said.
“Let’s just climb through the window.” Naru pointed at the window.
“Yeah, sure.” Mizuto nodded and walked over to the window.
He uncomfortably climbed through the window. Naru followed by climbing through very easily.
Mizuto looked around the living room and noticed tentacles that were in the walls. The tentacles pulsed. They were yellow and it seemed as if they were leading to the basement. Mizuto picked up a glass shard that came from the broken window. He walked over to one of the tentacles and stabbed it with the glass. Naru flinched as the tentacle next to her moved. Mizuto looked over at her and noticed a wound on her shoulder.
“What happened? Did it attack you?” Mizuto walked over to her.
“Y-Yeah… I’ll be ok though. Let’s continue.” Naru nodded.
Mizuto looked back at the basement door.
“We should go in there. We’ll probably find a clue.” Mizuto said.
“Yeah. Let’s go.” Naru nodded and started walking over to it.
She opened the door and walked down the stairs. Mizuto followed. Once they reached the bottom, Mizuto rubbed his hand against the wall until he found a light switch. He flipped the switch and the basement light turned on. Nothing. Nothing was in there. Just more tentacles in the walls. Mizuto sighed in disbelief. He looked at Naru whose face showed she was trying to hold something in.
“You good?” Mizuto chuckled.
A tentacle opened up and Azu’s body flopped onto the floor. Naru and Mizuto looked over at Azu’s body. Mizuto’s eyes widened as he covered his mouth.
“Holy crap- That’s Azu…” Naru took a step back. “The tentacles were hiding her body?”
“That’s disgusting…” Mizuto said as he threw up on the ground.
“Ugh… This is… Wow… I’ll uh… I’ll try and look around to see if there are any clues…”
Naru started looking around the room. Mizuto slowly and uncomfortably walked over to Azu’s body. He stared at it hoping he could find any clues. Sadly, there was nothing. Mizuto finally turned away and threw up on the floor again. Naru gave a disgusting groan.
“It doesn’t look like anything is here. Let’s go…” Naru said as she started walking up the stairs.
“Sounds good.” Mizuto nodded.
“You sure?”
Mizuto turned around and Azu was standing there staring at him.
“There’s nothing here for me to find. I’ll have to look somewhere else.”
“You didn’t even look hard enough. If you did, you would’ve noticed something about my finger.” Azu said as she lifted her finger and pointed it at him.
“Oh yeah. You’re not wearing your special ring. You always wear that thing.”
“Right. My mother's ring. I never take that thing off. Do you remember the other one I gave to you?”
“Uh… Yeah. You gave it to me as thanks for being your first friend.” Mizuto nodded.
“Right. Do you know where it is?” Azu tilted her head.
“Now that you mention it, I haven’t seen it in a while. I placed it on my dresser, but I don’t remember seeing it this morning.”
“Yeesh… you’re such a clutz…” Azu shook her head and chuckled.
Mizuto rolled his eyes.
“Say, where do-”
Mizuto blinked once and noticed that Azu’s body was back on the floor.
“Welp. So much for that.”
“YOU COMING MIZUTO?!?” Naru yelled from upstairs.
“YEAH!” Mizuto yelled as he ran up the stairs.
Mizuto walked out of the house with Naru. He sighed as he looked at Naru.
“This sucks. We found nothing.”
“Maybe we won’t ever find anything… What if there aren’t any clues? Maybe we just have to accept that she was murdered.”
“I might just have to hand this over to the police…” Mizuto looked at the ground as they walked.
“It’s been 3 months since she moved, bozo. The cops probably already tried investigating it but it didn’t work.”
“They didn’t have a body. Now they do.”
“Mizuto, those tentacles were hiding her body from us. I’m pretty sure it’ll do the same thing if the police come by. Then we just look like suspects.”
“True. Maybe I’ll just have to give this up.”
“Good boy.” Naru smiled at him.
Mizuto stopped.
“I’m gonna go home and rest. Bye.” Mizuto waved.
“Bye, sweetie. See you tomorrow at school.”
“Yeah.” Mizuto nodded.
