footnoteofhappiness 's review (Jewel Awards judge) : Wow this story blew me away! I have not read many stories even remotely like this one which makes it so unique and perfect to me! I am so glad I got to find this story through the contest as its wormed its way straight into my heart! What an incredibly well written piece of writing.
GVNDNBRCK 's review : This story is truly one of a kind. I'm not a reader, and I just could not stop reading this one. I kept scrolling through it. If you like fantasy, this one is for you. If you don't like fantasy, this story is still for you! It is well written and truly an amazing story! Go on and read it! :)
Wicked_C 's review: Herera is one of the most thrilling, fun and action-packed pirate stories I have read in a very long time. There is so much going on inside the novella, going from found family to exhilarating relationships. The plot twist had me screaming. All I can hope for is that this isn't the end of this amazing little crew of outcasts.
🥇 First place winner of The Creative Awards (adventure)
🥇 First place winner of The Blossom Awards (fantasy) hosted by TheBlossomCommunity_
🥇 First place winner of The Harvest Festival Awards (action) hosted by AstaniaCommunity
DeejayDJ010 's review (Harvest Festival Awards judge): The book balances earnestness of the protagonist to retrieve her lost ship while being playful in its narration. Info dumps are again minimal or at the least do not feel intrusive. The dialogues feel natural. The cast of characters are diverse - not only in background but also in personalties. The boat action scene was really well written and felt kinetic. It felt nuanced in the way the protagonist had to deal with/seek (at least a temorary) allyship with a character like Yui, who had mutinied in the past. This unspoken tension when he is included in the crew and the way they come to tolerate him is well done. Lemmy's intorduction in a flashback segment was short but created an impact. The story feels adventurous and that adds to the strong action beats. The pirate/boat setting and the fantasy elements complements the story greatly and offers a reading experience that a reader doesn't usually get.
🥉 Third place in The Love Song Awards (action / adventure) hosted by IceyPenguinEmpire
🥉 Third place in The Aureus Awards (LGBTQ) hosted by -sarawrites-
_notsohuman_ 's review (Aureus Awards judge): Sometimes a simple title could create magic (like literal magic). This is one of those examples. Captain Herera, although she's not perfect, she tries. Doing everything she can for her crew, or her family. And that family, consisting of every other magical being. The thing I loved the most about it was no love story. Smut or intimate scene is different from having a proper love story. This story kept its theme of the purple pearl being a refuge for the lost till its very end. Captain Herera and her crew members together, laughing and dancing, gave its ending a very nice meaning. Definitely a must read if you love magic and fantasy.
