-Y/n's POV-
Jason, Leo, and I walked into the building, being led by Coach Hedge. We would have to stop every couple of minutes so he could lecture us with his megaphone. But his megaphone was still busted so it just made a bunch of random animal noises or movie lines.
Leo kept pulling little trinkets out of his army jacket, keeping his hands busy at all times. Jason was looking pretty confused, so he didn't pay much attention to the exhibits.
I, on the other hand, was panicking. 'Where's my mom? How'd I get here? Am I dreaming?' My mind was buzzing with confusion. I pinched myself at least 20 times since we entered the museum.
How was it that I was standing next to people I read about, in a fictional book?! It was not logical nor possible, but here I was, walking alongside Leo Valdez and Jason Grace, while Piper McLean was stuck being buddies with Dylan, who was revealed to be a wind spirit. Should I warn them? Would that ruin things? But it would be okay since this isn't real...unless...
It wasn't until some girls started talking to Piper who was suffering with Dylan that I had snapped out of my thoughts.
"Hey, Piper, does your tribe run this place? Do you get in free if you do a rain dance?" One girl said, the others laughing and Dylan stifled a laugh.Piper may have been my least favorite character of the 7 but even I was feeling pissed off. I was going to say something but thought better of it.
"My dad's Cherokee," she said. "Not Hualapai. "Course, you'd need a few brain cells to know the difference, Isabel." Isabel widened her eyes in mock surprise so that she looked like an owl with a makeup addiction.
I stifled a laugh because I knew what Jason must've been thinking since that's what he called her in the book.
"Oh, sorry! Was your mom in this tribe? Oh, that's right. You never knew your mom." Now I wanted to punch the girl in the face but also laugh at her. If only she knew who Piper's mom actually was.
Piper charged at her, but before a fight could start, Coach Hedge yelled, "Enough back there! Set a good example or I'll break out my baseball bat!"
The group shuffled on to the next exhibit, but the girls kept calling out little comments to Piper.
"Good to be back on the rez?" one asked in a sweet voice."Dad's probably too drunk to work," another said with fake sympathy.
"That's why she turned klepto."
Piper ignored them, but Jason looked ready to bust a blood vessel.Leo stopped him and said, "Be cool, Piper doesn't like us fighting her battles," and went on to tell him about her dad and how the girls would be trying to be her friend if they knew.
Honestly, I'm pretty sure her dad was a dilf—
Anyways, Coach Hedge led us out to the skywalk to observe the Grand Canyon, and let me just tell you, it was—wow.
I was zoned out till I heard Coach Hedge say, "...If possible, try to avoid pushing each other off the ledge, as that would cause me extra paperwork."
"So I can't push Leo off?" I had said a little louder than intended and I received two glares—Coach and Leo— and a bunch of giggles from the others.
I smiled nervously, not knowing what to do, and walked over to Leo.
"Wow, you must love me a ton huh?" His sarcastic tone made me laugh.
"Oh you know it was a joke, I would nev..." I looked below us and gulped, walking back a little, I'm not necessarily scared of heights, more so of falling to my death.
