"Oh my gods! Oh my gods! Oh my gods!" Alexander repeated while pacing around Jason's room. "Why are you worried? You weren't chosen for the quest!" Jason started sipping his bag. "I'm worried because my best friend is leaving tomorrow for a quest I don't get to go on!"

"Oh," was the only thing Jason could say. His face turned red. "Thanks for caring, Alexander." He mumbled. Alexander groaned dramatically. "I'm going to miss you so much, Jay!"  Jason sighed and smiled. "I know you will, Alexander."

Jason gasped. Alexander looked over to his friend to see what he saw. Jason didn't pack his copy of Mushroom Kingdom's Book On Forest Magic. Alexander rolled his eyes. Jason quickly stuffed the encyclopaedia in his bag.

"Listen, I don't know why it's me who is going on a quest. Why can't you-" As soon as Jason tried to finish his sentence something weird happened. The crow from earlier grew 25 times its size. It flew right behind Alexander.

"A son of Kaikos." Mrs. WitherLeaf said, she stood at Jason's door. Alexander was confused. He looked behind him,  "Oh my gods-" Jason jumped back and fell to the floor. "Mother!" He yelled. "Look." She whispered and pointed at Alexander. Alexander looked back around. He gasped. He turned around. Alexander's eyes were glowing a warm white. On his back were dark grey wings.

...

"Oh my gods." Now it was Jason's turn to freak out. "You're the son of-" "Kaikos! The goddess of crows and weather!" Alexander was beaming with happiness, even the sun, Helik, would be jealous of how bright he shined. "Kaikos is my favourite  goddess!"

Jason sat down on his bed. "Wait." He shot up. "In the Great Sphinx Prophecy there's a half-god." Alexander nodded. "So?" He asked. "So, you could be the half-god!" Alexander's eyes widened like he had just had to be sat down and explained that red razberries didn't exist.

The first response was: "Oh." The 'H' trailed on for five seconds. Alexander chuckled. "You're right!" He grinned. Jason rolled his eyes playfully. "You roll your eyes a lot." Alexander said out of the blue. Jason smiled. "I know, Alexander."

"Oh! I could be the chosen half-god!" Alexander yelled. The information had just been processed in his mind. Jason chuckled, his best friend was always a little...different than the others. Others as in Jason. Jason didn't really know any other humans, witches, or other beings.

"Well, of course, it's you!" Jason stood up. He grabbed his bags. Alexander chuckled. "I suppose I should have realised it when you said 'so you could be the half-god!'" Jason face-palmed. "Yeah!"

...

"I've got my change of clothes, boots, gloves, a dagger..." Alexander trailed off. "I think that's all, yeah?" Jason hesitated before saying anything. "Oh." He chuckled. "You forgot your first-aid kit!" Jason face-palmed. "You're the best, Jason!" Alexander said, tying his boots. "I know, Alexander."

"Hey, uhm, Jason?" Jason turned to his friend. "Yeah?" Alexander sighed. "Do you think I'll ever see Caw again?" Jason was confused. "Caw?" He asked. "Caw. The crow." Alexander said like Jason should've known what he was talking about. "You named it?"

Alexander nodded. "Yes. Yes, I did name him." Jason rolled his eyes. "It's just a crow." He said. "A magic crow!" Alexander defended. Jason sighed. "How did we become friends?" To his surprise Alexander answered his rhetorical question. "You met this eight-year old kid in the woods living in an old abandoned cottage," Alexander pointed to himself, "And became friends with him, and you stayed friends for seven years!"

Jason smiled at the old memory. "That was my favourite day." Alexander sat down on the bottom bunk of the bed, which was Jason's. "Was?" Alexander asked. "My favourite day changes to everyday I'm with you." Jason responded. "Oh...my...gods!" Alexander engulfed Jason in a hug...and shadows. Hugs and shadows. I guess that's what happens when you're the child of Kaikos. Alexander let go. Jason shivered. "That was..weird. And fun. Fun even though I think I died a little."
