Lloyd paused, staring through the open door past the bedroom, and into the living room. Y/n's dad was home. Fuck he had bad timing. But.. who was Grayson?

He'd just.. he'd wait out here for her. It wasn't too cold... How much longer until it no longer got dark at 7?

Leaning against the short railing, he pulled his phone out of his pocket, and began scrolling through the articles and posts Zane had sent. It was a part of the team's duties to go over recent news to make sure nothing about their identities got revealed. It was always better to be safe rather than sorry.

Of course, Lloyd got the heftiest of the articles since he was the 'Fabled Green Ninja..' Though today it seemed like most of them were just pictures from the steetlamp a few days ago. But one of them caught his eye.

*Green Ninja hair color, and age!* How would they even confirm his hair color? He never took his hood off in public. And his age? It must have just been clickbait.. right? Out of both curiosity, and fear, he clicked on the article. It was a small blog with only a few hundred followers, of course named 'i-luv-greninja' the pocket monster or a short name for him? Maybe both.

The latest article was talking about how a mutual friend of the blogger's had met the Green Ninja after almost getting hit by a vehicle, and confirmed his hair was blond and that he was a teenager. Not that it put him much more danger of being found out, but it still confused him how they knew all this. A mutual friend? Who could it-

"Green? You're.. you're here.."

He glanced up to face her. She told them. She had told them all the things he had only sworn to tell her. Taking a deep breath, Lloyd looked up from his phone to her. "You told someone?"

Your heart almost broke at the hurt in his voice. What was he talking about? "Green- what? I don't think I told anyone anything.. what are you talking about?"

Green swiped on his phone a few times, and then held it out to you. It was a blog post, talking about new information on him. The person mentioned a friend of a friend who had gotten saved by the Green Ninja after almost getting hit by a.. vehicle... Oh.. Sally had told her other friend after all.

Continuing to skim your gaze over it, you shook your head. "Green- I swear.. I.. I didn't mean to. I'd never tell anyone that on purpose.. I was talking to a friend and she brought up how the Ninja had fought in the Serpentine wars, so I was confused since I thought you were all teenagers, but then she asked me to describe you since she fan girls over your team, and I couldn't exactly tell her: 'hey! I actually am kinda, technically dating the Green Ninja' because I would sound insane and only reveal more. I didn't think her friend would actually publish it- or that you would ever see it!"

He took his phone back, shoving it into his pocket. "You cant just let stuff like that slip. Be more careful with what you say.."

You scrunched your nose, letting a choked sob out."I- I didn't mean to. I told you.. I'd never reveal your identity even if I knew it!"

"-Y/n? Is everything okay? Who are you talking to? Are you crying?

Hearing your dad's call, you sighed. "It's fine! Just talking to Grayden, and allergies!"

Green scoffed, pulling his head back. "Who even is Grayden?!"

Pinching your nosebridge, you exhaled. "You're Grayden! Because when I tell my dad I finally found my soulmate, he doesnt expect me to say a superhero I don't even know the face or name of. It would be impossible to explain this all to him without him overreacting! You're so- you're so frustrating!"

"I'm frustrating? I only found out you were my soulmate last week, and you're already wasting my time! I could be on patrol right now, but instead I'm here having to explain what's right and wrong to you. I- have a job, I don't have all the time in the world!"

Your breath hitched, eyes burning.
"Right. Because I'm a waste of time. You having a soulmate is a waste of time."

Green's eyebrows tilted up in a panic. "Y/n- you know I didn't mean it like that- I never meant that-"

"Didn't you though? Im wasting your time, and you don't have all the time in the world. I understand, it's fine. Just go on patrol and get out of here. I'll stop being a waste of time, and we can both go back to being soulmateless. That's what you wanted, right?"

His shoulders trembled as he shook his head. "I swear, I never meant it. Ignore everything I just said, I just- I've been a bit frustrated recently, and preparing for finals has been stressful, I just-.. I'm making excuses...

"I came here to finally tell you who I am.. but now I'm getting worried I still won't be good enough. What was I even thinking? None of what I said is true. Y/n.." His gloved hand trailed up from your shoulder and cupped your cheek. "Every silent moment is filled with thoughts of you. Being around you is intoxicating, and I could never get enough of seeing you. How do I even- how do I even show you I'm sorry- how do I make it up to you.."

You trembled as his hand ran up the delicate skin of your neck. "I don't-" you sniffled, "I don't even want to know who you are.. I instigated the kiss. And you left like a coward. I've been so worried that I did something wrong even though I fucking know it's your fault!"

Biting his cheek, Green nodded. "I know. I'm sorry. I could try explaining how you're amazing and I am a total asshole who feels like I'm leeching off of you.. but I wouldn't be able to tell you everything."

"Why not?" You asked, pushing his hand down from your face, as much as it hurt to do so. "Why can't you tell me everything? You said you came to tell me who you were, so fucking tell me! Why can't you!?"

His eyes widened, the green blending in with his Gi. "Because I'm scared! I'm scared if I tell you then you'll be in trouble! I- fuck! There's probably someone watching us right now, and I hate it! I want to tell you, but I can't! I-" He choked in a gasp of air, shaking as his eyes watered. He stumbled backwards, falling towards the railing.

Dashing forward, you wrapped an arm around him, just in case he was going to fall. "Hey- calm down." Pulling him down to the grated floor of the fire escape, you sighed. "I'm sorry. I'm just.. frustrated. First you stop talking to me, then one of my kinda friends at school stops talking to me and.. I-" sniffling, you quietly laughed, rubbing your eyed with the edge of your palm. "I.. I'm.. sorry. I get it's a lot to ask for you to be really devoted to me right now... I get I'm not the easiest person to talk to, believe me."

He sat on his knees, taking off his gloves to expose his hands. Cupping your cheeks, he smiled, though it was unoticable other than the slight crinkle of his eyes. "You can be difficult sometimes.. but honestly everyone I've encountered has been difficult to me. But you're trying. Just promise that you understand I didn't mean it. You're not a waste of time. And we'll figure this out together."

You sniffled again leaning into his hand. "I- oh- okay.. as long as you promise I'm the first to see you without your mask?"

"Deal." Green chuckled, shaking his head. "Come 'ere." He pulled you closer, rubbing the side of your arm as he held your sobbing form.

And you weren't exactly sure when you were even moved to your bed to sleep.
