It all began when the nation's most renowned mafia entered the residence of Y/N, a modest young woman whose only aspirations were to complete her college education and lead a tranquil existence. Unbeknownst to her, her life was about to undergo a pr...
I sensed a gentle kiss landing on my forehead while I was nestled in bed, accompanied by the subtle click of the door closing as someone carefully shut it. I waited a solid five seconds before rising from bed. Given the pitch-black sky stretching beyond the small windows, it was around 3AM in the morning. What the heck could Taehyung be doing so late at night? I sprang out from the sheets, quickly donning joggers and a sweatshirt before slipping out of my bedroom. It had been like this for four consecutive days now, and my curiosities and suspicions were growing exponentially.
Taehyung would slip out at night and return home early in the morning, tattooed with wounds and cuts, adamantly refusing any attempts from me to treat him. Instead, he would ask the house maid to help, and the two of them would enter his bedroom and come out laughing. I couldn't help but feel a tad jealous—well, maybe a bit more than just a tad. Okay, fine, I was practically swimming in a pool of jealousy. Does that make me toxic? Perhaps I'm just overthinking things.
Well, maybe not, considering I was currently tailing closely behind Taehyung, strategically hiding behind random objects and walls as if I were the next Black Widow, all in an effort not to be caught while stalking him. I even surprised myself when I successfully made it out of the house. Able to follow a mafia without getting caught—now that's a skill to add to my resume.
I observed his muscular figure make a right turn—heading into the narrow trail behind his mansion. Oh boy. . .
~Somi's POV~
"Five minutes left for the test, everyone! Pace yourselves accordingly," Ms. Park announced, briefly glancing up at us before returning her attention to the stack of homework that needed to be graded.
I sat there, staring blankly at the wall—I had long finished. Out of the corner of my eye, I observed Sana discreetly slide the small post-it note containing the answers. She rolled up the paper, inserted it into a mechanical pencil, and then passed it on to Mina. They better not get us caught, I mumbled under my breath through gritted teeth. Anyone could easily see what they were doing, even from a mile away.
Anxiously, I glanced around the room to ensure everyone was engrossed in their tests, only to lock eyes with Jennie, the class nerd. My heart stopped, and I could already feel my fingertips growing cold. With a coat of sweat adorning my head, I managed to squeeze out a small smile before snapping my head back to my finished test. Shoot, that was suspicious as hell.
"Ms. Park?" Jennie inquired, raising her hand. Ms. Park looked up and nodded, signaling for her to proceed.
"She's cheating."
Jennie gestured toward Mina, who held the small slip of answers in her hand. At this point, everyone had raised their heads and glanced between the two, some curious about the interruption, and others snickering. Mina gazed at Jennie with hooded eyes, while Jennie sported a smirk on her face.
No one was shocked that tension had escalated between the two; a couple of months back, Mina had initiated a rumor accusing Jennie of purchasing drugs. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the rumor was indeed a fact, considering the intense studying Jennie undergoes may lead her into a spiral of depression.
Ms. Park stood in front of Mina, hands placed firmly on his hips. "Is that true, Mina?"
"Of course not, Ms. Park! This is all just a misunderstanding," Mina replied calmly, casting a sharp glance at Jennie from the corner of her eyes.
"Really, Mina? Then care to show me what's in your hands?"
"I won't."
A wave of gasps swept through the classroom, leaving Ms. Park surprised, her hand clasping her chest at Mina's unexpected response.
"That wasn't a question, Mina!" Ms. Park exclaimed, attempting to snatch the piece of paper out of Mina's hands. However, Mina tugged back aggressively, creating a scene that almost resembled a comedy spectacle as the student and teacher engaged in a back-and-forth struggle.
A few moments later, Mina emerged victorious in the struggle, securing the post-it note in her mouth and swallowing it. "There, now you can't accuse me of anything," she deadpanned before standing up to meet Ms. Park's height.
"Quite the opposite, young lady! That proves you're guilty of cheating!" Ms. Park retorted, her balance faltering amid the commotion.
"You really want to know what the slip said?"
"Do tell."
"It said your hair looks like a bird's nest. Jennie handed me the note and requested that I pass it on to everyone."
Ms. Park loomed over Jennie's desk, her stern expression accentuated as she observed the visibly flustered girl.
"Is what Mina says true?"
"W—What? No! What Mina says is complete crap! Please believe me, Ms. Park!"
"Actually, Jennie loves talking bad about all the teachers and students behind their backs," Sana piped in.
"You can't listen to Sana; she's Mina's best friend. Ask Somi! She'll tell you that I'm innocent!" Jennie cried out.
Everyone turned to me.
"It doesn't seem like Mina's lying," I said quietly.
