Soda's Pov
I woke up bright and early today, I was too excited to sleep. Today was Saturday and also y/n, and I's 18th birthday. I decided I might as well go get in the shower if no one else was up.

I opened the door of the bathroom, after getting out of my shower, and getting dressed. Darry was in the kitchen, so I walked in, grabbing a glass of water from the sink.

"Hey, little buddy, Happy Birthday!" Darry said, pulling me into a hug.

"Thanks, Darry. Are Pony and y/nn up yet?" I questioned.

"No, but you can go and wake them if you want. Dont just go in there and scare her awake either! Be nice!" He yelled as I was already halfway up the stairs.

I first walked into my room quietly, waking up Pony, as he groaned and got up, wishing me a Happy Birthday as he walked out of the room and towards the kitchen.

I made my way towards y/n's room, opening the door wide, seeing her hair draped across the pillows, and her lips small snores escaping them.

I slowly walked up to her bed, getting in beside her and hugging her.

"Hey y/n, wake up! It's our birthday!" I whispered in her ear she groaned as she turned to face me.

"Happy birthday, Sodie." She smiled up  at me. I stood up out of her bed, grabbing her hands and pulling her up with me.

"Happy birthday, bug. Come on, let's go downstairs and eat some breakfast." I said. She sleepily followed me downstairs into the kitchen, sitting in her normal seat at the table.

She didn't look very excited, but I guessed it was just because she was still tired.

Y/ns POV-

I sat at the kitchen table in my normal seat, just thinking. I know I should be excited about my birthday, but I wasn't. This was mine and Soda's first birthday without our parents. The only thing I could think of was how my mom and dad should be here. Soda must have been too excited to turn 18 than realize what I had.

"Hey y/nn happy birthday!" Darry and Pony said, coming behind me and engulfing me into a tight hug.

"Thanks, guys." I said, trying to sound as enthusiastic as my brother.

The door opened to reveal the rest of the gang coming in all wishing Soda and I 'Happy Birthday'. Darry pulled a chocolate cake out of the fridge, placing two candles on top and using Dallys lighter.

After the horrible rendition of the birthday song, Soda and I laughed and thanked everyone.

Time skip-

I sat on the couch, staring at the wall a blank stare upon my face. Darry and Twobit had run to get some dinner. I was soon pulled out of my thoughts when Steve came up to me, waving his hand in front of my face.

"Hey y/nn you okay? You don't seem like yourself." He said I gave him a small smile.

"Yea, I'm alright. Sorry, I just got a little distracted, I guess." I explained, trying to laugh it off. I noticed my twin sat at the table with Dally, Johnny, and Pony  playing poker, a card poking out of his sleeve.

I got up and walked to my room where I could let my tears fall without anyone knowing.

Sitting on my bed, I pulled my knees to my chest, sobbing into my hands.
'I wish my parents were here.'
'I want my mom'
'I miss them'
'I hate birthdays'

Were the only thoughts running through my mind. A stream of tears ran down my face. As I sat there numb.

Soda's Pov-
Darry and Two arrived with some burgers and fries and a strawberry shake (per y/ns request). I got up from my seat to help them carry the bag in, the ace I forgot about falling from my sleeve.

"God Damn you, Soda, I knew you was cheating" Steve yelled, tackling me to the ground.

"Alright, come on, Steve, don't rough him up too much. it's his birthday." Darry said.

Speaking of birthdays, where was y/n at.

"Hey, have any of you seen y/n?" I asked and looked around the group.

"Yea, she went upstairs earlier. She was just kind staring at the wall, almost in a trance, man." Steve said

"I'll be right back," I said, excusing myself from the group and walking up the stairs. Y/ns door was closed. I pressed my ear into the wood, hearing sobs escape her mouth. Instead of just rushing in, I went downstairs and grabbed Darry, telling him he needed to come look at something.

"Soda, what's up?" He asked.

"Shhh, just listen, man," I said as he pressed his ear to the door, the sobs growing louder than they had before.

Darry opened up her door, walking in and sitting on the bed. He pulled her into his chest as she wrapped her arms around his neck, continuing to cry.

"Hey bug, what's wrong," Darry said, brushing her hair out of her face. I sat on the bed patting her back. She sobbed harder after being asked.

"Hey, it's okay," I reassured her. She looked up from Darry's chest, face red and blotchy.

"N-no, it's not, I want my mom," She choked out. A few tears slipped from my face as I realized exactly what the words meant. This was the first birthday we had, since the accident.

I grabbed her, placing her on my lap as I silently cried. Darry had a numb look on his face.

"I'm so sorry we didn't realize, y/nn," Darry said, breaking the silence. Hugging us both and leaving us to be alone. I'm sure he was telling the gang not to bring the topic up when we came downstairs.

Eventually, we got calmed down enough and headed downstairs. The gang was already digging into their food. Y/n sat down and smiled when she saw her strawberry shake.

The rest of the night was filled with laughter as the gang tried to distract y/n and I from our thoughts.

Deep down, I was still sad and angry at myself for not realizing what y/nn had.

God I miss my parents.
