Fear, filth, and Flight

The sound of the growling voices vibrated through the ground like an earthquake. Every single person was either wasting blood or losing blood. It was a massive commotion as wolves tore each other apart.

But this wasn't the first of its kind. It has been a bloodbath between The Royal Legions and The Night Wind wolf clan since centuries ago. This particular one was no different and not any less meaningful.

"We shall slaughter every Royal Legion our eyes fall upon, for they are filths of this world and therefore need to be wiped out !" A night wind warrior shouted as he sprang unto his victim.

Cordelia shrunk further into her hiding spot under the tree at the warrior's words. She watched the guy end his victim.

She was stuck in that spot with her little sister, Sydney, who was trembling by her side.

Sydney had seen only two major wars in her 12 years of life, this one topping the chart, but Cordelia on the other hand could say she has at least had one for every 24 birthday. These clan wars almost became like an unwanted birthday gift.

These wars were driving the Royal Legions to extinction.

It drove their parents to extinction last year, making her and her little sister orphans but the little of their community that was left held together because many kids ended up like them, so they supported and welcomed each other.

Their hiding spot under the broken tree hollow was becoming less and less protective. The only other move the two could make was escape the spot but that would seem impossible when you are sandwiched by viscous animals only reasoning with their murdering instinct.

There was no way they could leave that hollow without someone recognizing their emerald-green Royal Legion eyes and slaughtering them without the slightest empathy for their gender and helplessness.

Cordelia turned her eyes to her sister's puffy red face. The fright was written all over it.

"We are going to end up like Mom and Dad, Cordy. I'm scared," Sydney said to her sister with a shattering voice.

Cordelia's heart broke at the hopeless words of her little sister. She held her shoulder and shook her slightly. "Pull yourself together, Syd. The sun rose in the east this morning, we don't get to die today."

"But the sun always rises in the east," Sydney replied, puzzled.

Cordelia smiled at her sister's humorous ignorance; as she was glad for it at that moment. "Just take the cheap hope I'm providing Syd, that's all we can do right now, hope because we are certainly not getting up."

"Now I really wish the elders would have taught us how to unlock our power of invisibility instead of telling us it is dangerous to handle. With it, we could have been out of this situation," Sydney said to her sister.

"Huh? If the elders actually knew how to activate the power of invisibility, do you think ANY of these situations would have ever happened over the years? They are just as dumb as the rest of us."

They both chuckled at the comment and squeezed their bodies together for warmth. They shared a look that spoke a lot of hope to each other and lowered their heads with closed eyes.

The only thing now was to wait for circumstance to decide their fate.

Slowly the sound of the growling and cries around them died down. They both didn't even know if hours had gone by.

"AHHHHHHH! Alpha, here's a pair!"

Cordelia and her sister immediately jumped at the loud sound of the man's voice. He had torn apart the log covering them. They crawled into a ball as he spoke.

"Open your eyes and let me see you girls!" he said, smiling sickly.

They both slowly lifted their green eyes at him.

"Ohhhhh, this one is good. They are royal girls." The guy's claws were now stuck out of his hands in excitement as he spoke.

Sydney was whimpering and trembling with fear but Cordelia kept a firm posture as she looked the guy right in his firey hazel eyes. Her face filled with anger.

"Would you like to do the honors, Alpha!?" He shouted again as he spoke to another man who was slowly approaching where they all stood.

Gabriel walked towards where Lucas stood with the two girls. He was slightly annoyed at his Beta's ruthless thirst for blood.

He was no vampire but he was certainly eager for the stench of blood, even if it was just a minor wound; Lucas liked the blood flow.

They were both a perfect contrast that kept the balance for each other as heads of the Night Wind clan.

Gabriel's clan was the strongest and largest breed and they continuously defeated the royal Legions, even though the latter had the most power, they were small in number.

Gabriel ordered two of his men to hold up the girls as he approached them. "Wipe the circus smile off your face, Lucas. We said we were done. We will leave a mark on these two angels and make sure to handle them in the next war."

Lucas' smile instantly dropped like a sick baby at Gabriel's words. His reply was interrupted by one of their warriors.

"Alpha, Beta!" The warrior spoke in a hushed tone as he approached the two. "The stone exists."

Lucas and Gabriel's eyes grew wide with shock and excitement at the warrior's comment. "Where is it?" Gabriel asked.

"The location can only be revealed to the eyes of the legions. Only when they are trained to a certain degree of their powers," The warrior reported.

Cordelia could hear their hush conversation but she didn't pay attention. It was like they were speaking in codes, she couldn't understand a word. She and her sister were focused on their lame attempt of trying to wriggle out of the grasp of the men who held them.

Gabriel lifted his eyes to the two green-eyed girls and pointed. "Bring the bigger one along, we'll use her eyes," he ordered before walking away, as the girls started to shout and beg.

"What do we do with the small one, Alpha?" Luca called behind him.

Gabriel stopped in his tracks and turned his head. His eyes fell upon Cordelia's angry face, the contrast of their emerald and fire hazel eyes met as her wriggling slowed down.

A thought came to Gabriel's mind, making his face conformed to a slow devilish smile.
