"Let me sleep on it, " He said.
It was like a heavy weight lifted off Cordelia's shoulder when he said the words. She knew she was being taken hostage but now her sister's life hung in the balance.
"Take the little one away. You know what to do," Gabriel commanded his warriors.
"No, no, Cordy, please don't let them take me. Please...please!" Sydney wailed as they dragged her away from her sister.
"I will do anything you want, please just let her live. Kill me instead," Cordelia pleaded to Gabriel as they reached the door of the jeep.
"Now I like those words, 'anything you want'. Get in the car, let's see what we can do about your sister's dear life."
Cordelia couldn't exactly wrap her head around what a Night Wind would want from her. So many confusing situations had already happened.
Night winds never took slaves. During every war, you were either an escaper or a dead body. Never a hostage or a slave, but I guess when both breeds are extinct and somebody writes the history of the fated bloodbath, her name will be remembered in history.
Even if it's with a mark of slavery.
And now here she was, blindfolded and seated next to her biggest enemy, on her way to God knows where.
"So here's what we are going to do...umm."
"Cordelia..."
"Right, Cordelia." Gabriel continued. "Tell me, what powers of yours can you currently operate?"
"Where did you take my sister?"
"And here's what we are not going to do. You are not going to ask questions, you are going to follow commands. You will do what I tell you to do, when I tell you to do it, and how I tell you to do it. because your sister's existence is in my hands and you...belong to me now."
Cordelia and Gabriel stared at each other. It was weird since she was blindfolded.
She snared her teeth at him, pulling out her fangs. Gabriel held a smile at her lame attempt to look domineering in the conversation.
The silence filled the car for a few seconds before she realized her only option was to be submissive. "Speed, strong vision, and strength so far."
"What are you? Fifteen? Those are elementary abilities. What have you been doing all your life? You can't even shapeshift!"
Cordelia knew he was right. She should know more, but her parents believed what they needed to end the Cold War was a lack of powers and the right peace would appear around the corner.
Cordelia heard the car go through a huge iron gate. It was probably 10 times taller than her. Her plans of escaping were slowly failing before they even began.
As the blindfold came off her face, she caught a glimpse of a gigantic brick mansion before she lost consciousness from a hit in the back of her head.
Her vision blurred as she blinked the tears back. Her eyes adjusted to her bright surroundings once they cleared.
She was in what seemed like an attic room on a single bed. Cordelia shot up on the white sheet as an aching pain shot in the back of her head when she tried to speak.
There were muffled voices outside the door and she heard them come closer She pretended to be unconscious again as the door swung open. How she thought that would help her current situation is unknown.
It was Gabriel and a few unknown night winds.
"She must start training right away. On the O clock of the break of dawn, we have no time to waste. No food for the rest of the evening. We have to make this one understand that she is not an asset to us but a liability ".
"As you wish Alpha Gabriel," One of the men replied.
Cordelia wracked her brain to understand what he meant. Everything he has said about her since the beginning of her slavery demise has been coded. It got even more exhausting and frightening by the minute.
"Leave us," Gabriel said to his men as he sat on the edge of the tiny bed near Cordelia.
"Open your eyes, Cordeulia."
The way he sounded her name made her entire body shiver involuntarily. It gives away even more, the truth of her alertness.
She slowly opened her eyes and met his. He had a stern look on his and her eyes were wide. she bit on her bottom lip in frightening anticipation of what was about to happen next.
Gabriel's eyes averted to her lips and to the rise and fall of her chest. She had on a spaghetti-strap gray blouse that was covered in blood stains. It was torn at the hand, pulling the blouse further down, exposing her upper chest that was glistened in sweat, especially as she breathed anxiously now.
He sucked in a breath as he rose from the bed. "The next time you pull a stunt like that, I will rip your eyes out. Since you have no use for them but to pretend like you're unconscious." He warned.
Her insides squeezed at his words. Gabriel stopped in his tracks as he headed out the door
"And change into something less thirsty," he said to her with his back turned.
Again...his words were beyond her understanding.
The night time rushed in and the quietude filled the attic floor of the night wind mansion. The guard at Cordelia's door had left.
For the past three hours, Cordelia sat wondering if a quiet floor and gate she could see from her window was her chance to escape this horror house.
The door squealed across the floor as she pulled it open and dug her head out. there was only one other door on the floor. It had a very huge mahogany door but she heard no sound come from it.
Not leaving herself any room to second guess the situation, Cordelia hurried down the staircase. She had not the faintest idea of where to go or what might become of her if she got caught.
I'd rather die trying than sit back at my first opportunity.
She tiptoed around the different floors that were uncannily empty until she found herself at a side exit. The night was shivering as she stepped out into the open. She spotted the gate, yet again unguarded.
She made her way across the yard.
"Hey!"
Her eyes bulged out as she turned to find a guard fast approaching her while shifting. He was going to be faster than her since he was getting into his wolf form but she made a run for it anyway.
Sprinting through the gate with the guard on her tail, she had no time to wonder why the gate was ajar.
Leaves and branches left multiple cuts on her face as she sped through the unknown woods. Her blood dripped from cuts all over her body. She was panting from fear, exhaustion, and hunger.
The rustling of the woods alarmed her of the nearness of her predator.
Cordelia perceived she had been running for an hour but with no idea of where she was. She was not giving up but neither was the guard.
"CORDEULIA!!"
Oh no!
The voice was so close and loud! It resounded through the dark woods with such anger and dominance. But wait! The way he said her name. That was no guard.
Damn it!
It was ...
"STOP THIS MOMENT!"
Gabriel.
