Cordelia’s heartbeat quickened to a million as she fastened her pace to a speed she didn’t know existed within her.
Her marathon came to a pause when she approached a highway road. Blinding lights came from across. She hooded her eyes to see the symbol at the top of what looked to be a cottage bar.
It looked like the statue of a female, with pointed ears and fury tails, going in all directions. Rings of yellow light surrounded the figure. This creature was new to her.
It was a huge risk to take again. But there was the fact that Cordelia didn’t know how far back Gabriel was, and she was not ready to be caught.
As she approached the bar, a group of people flooded out. These people had shapes like the statue above, except there was no ring of light and most of them had no tails. But the pointy ear, amber-colored eyes, and reddish hair were there.
Someone tapped her leg and she turned to see a child of the strange creatures—a little girl with red hair and cute pointy ears.
“You have green eyes,” she said softly.
The lady holding her hands stopped in her tracks and turned to Cordelia.
“Green eyes,” she said with disgust.
Cordelia averted and shut her eyes as everybody seemed to be turning on her. Just standing there, she felt resentment and hate coming off of them. For reasons unknown to her, it felt like she was standing amid people who were about to slaughter her without a doubt.
Maybe I should have let Gabriel catch me.
The chaos was growing around her. Everybody was getting closer and murmuring words she couldn’t put together and that’s when she heard her name from the familiar voice again.
A hand jerked her from among the crowd, to the side of the road.
Cordelia was panting heavily as she got stuck against a colossal chest. She opened my eyes slowly to stare into Gabriel’s fiery eyes. His sharp jaws were flexing in anger as he held her around the shoulder. He had a few days old stubble on his face that defined his sharp jaws even more.
‘She’s a royal legion”
“Royal legions are filth!”
“They are a threat to this world!”
“She brings bad luck!”
“Let us kill her !”
“Yeah!”
So many angry words were flowing from the approaching crowd. They were now fully shapeshifting into the creature above the bar.
“Why are you protecting her, you’re not like her! Give her here. Let us slaughter this trash .!”
One of the angry creatures got closer to them. The hair on his arms was almost orange and they stood sharp. It was almost as if his ears would shoot fire as he spoke.
A tear rolled down her cheek at their insulting words. She planted her ears against Gabirel’s chest and closed her eyes, drowning out their words.
“she is not a royal legion”
Cordelia felt the vibration of Gabriel’s voice through his chest.
“ But she has green eyes!”
“Other species of wolves have green eyes too.”
