I actually updated this story 🤯🤯🤯
It's a juicy chapter. I hope the quality of this chapter and the teasers/covers for my upcoming works make up for how long I've been gone. It was finals season for a while there, so I didn't have much time to write.
☂ Chapter 10 ☂
Y/n had never felt like this before.
Nervousness attacked her ribs as she sprinted toward the open cargo bay of the ship. She had a bulletproof vest on and an earpiece in, but part of her knew it wouldn't matter. She was a rookie. Why was she on this mission? Was it because of her dedication and incredible performance so far? It couldn't be. She hadn't been there long enough to make an impact on 1PP.
However, the more Y/n thought about it, the more she realized she was only on the mission because 1PP was so thirsty for revenge, they were letting any officer with a pulse raid the ship.
Although she hadn't been a police officer long, she knew rage like this wasn't normal. Even the legendary Park Jimin seemed like he was barely containing himself. He was next to her with his uniform covered in moisture from the rain. His hair was damp, but he slicked it back to get it out of his face. She spotted a mole on his neck, but it was hard to see thanks to the collar of his dark outfit. He also had gloves on. Not quite the same thick leather as hers, but they were black and tight. He kept his grip on his sidearm, which he raised to eye level as soon as they stepped onboard.
"Cadet L/n," Jimin said. His voice was tense. Sharp. Tight. "Stay behind me. You shouldn't be on this mission, but we could use all the extra guns we got."
Y/n knew better than to speak. In that moment, they needed quiet and concentration. She made sure her safety was off but her finger didn't touch the trigger. As her training had taught her, she shouldn't put her hand on the trigger unless she was sure she wanted to shoot. Beyond that, she shouldn't ever aim a weapon at someone unless she had the intention of shooting. Loaded or unloaded, she made a vow never to hold a gun even in the relative direction of someone she had no plans of shooting.
She followed Officer Park onto the ship. It creaked as soon as her muddy boots made contact with the metal. No lights were present. Jimin flicked on his flashlight and held it with one hand above his pistol. The beam of light wavered as Jimin adjusted it, but soon enough, the empty, cramped hallway revealed itself to them.
Jimin pressed on his walkie-talkie. "No leftover cargo in my sights. Anyone got a visual on any goodies left behind?"
But he was met with static. Jimin mumbled a Korean word before releasing his device and crouching. He motioned for her to follow his lead, so she did. They were the only two in that sector, but she could hear the banging footsteps of other officers above her. The ship had multiple floors, and they were late to the party. They got to be the stragglers who walked into the chaos.
"Listen to me," Jimin said. He almost sounded like he was hyperventilating. "You're my responsibility now. No matter what, you listen to my orders. You don't shoot unless I shoot first or give an order. I know we're angry, but we're the keepers of the peace, not murderers. We give them a chance to surrender first, and if they don't comply, that's when we open fire. Have I made myself clear?"
Officer Park glanced at her. The flashlight illuminated his plump lips. They were cracked, almost as if he had been nibbling on them. She spotted a dot of blood on his lower lip, right where a front tooth could come down and chew. From her angle, he had soft lines on the corners of his mouth that looked like wrinkles. His eye bags were visible. His button nose seemed droopy. Even the mole on his forehead appeared sagged and weighed down by the mission.
