☂ Chapter 27 - FINALE ☂
Korea was different than Jimin remembered.
Although it hadn't been too long since Jimin had been in Seoul, it had more flashing lights, tourists, and cars than he thought. The car horns blared, the people chatted on phones as they strolled by, the girls held hands and laughed at one another, and the streets smelled of savory scents, like tteok-bokki. Despite living there most of his life, he didn't know where he was. All he knew was KakaoMap guided him down the street in search of the place he had left June all that time ago.
He wondered if Irene was looking down on him. He wondered if she was disappointed. Hell, he was, and he didn't make any dying wishes to ask his best friend and partner to take care of his kid. Yet there he was anyway, searching for the child he had abandoned out of terror. Then again, it led him to meeting the love of his life. Beautiful Y/n. The woman he hoped would take his hand in marriage one day. But that was a topic for another time. June was his priority. Jimin had spent enough of his life prioritizing himself; it was time to find June.
Jimin trotted down the streets and tried to pretend he wasn't a fish out of water in his home country. He bumped into people and had to bow in apology, spewing out Korean words that felt wrong on his tongue. It felt as though the entire planet stared at him as he tucked his hands in his pockets and took his walk of shame. He didn't bother looking at the navigation anymore, and he wasn't sure if it was out of shame or pettiness.
Where he had put June was the Children's Home. No, literally—that was the actual name of the place. In Hangeul, it was 아이들의 집, and it had an ugly green sign. That didn't matter; the inside had beautiful, vibrant walls and toys for the kids. They had plenty of orphans, but they also specialized in early life care and education. Disabled children were welcomed there, too. That was why Jimin had chosen it: it was genuine. It had life. More life than Jimin could give June, anyway. As much as Jimin wanted to flee Korea back then, he at least had the human decency to investigate the place he was going to plop June.
After a few minutes, he located the ugly sign and went to it in time to see motherfucking Jeon Jungkook leaning against it. It took two eye rubs and a small slap to his own face to ensure it was real, but once Jimin confirmed Jungkook wasn't an illusion, Jimin scoffed and took his hands out of his pockets, approaching the bunny boy.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Surprised it took you this long to find out I joined you. Mr. First Class didn't pay attention to economy, huh?" Jungkook asked with a snort, pushing off the sign and coming over to him. "You thought I'd let you do this alone?"
"I should."
"Nah." Jungkook waved him off. "Don't be stubborn. You already pushed your girlfriend away, don't push me away too."
Jimin crossed his arms over his chest. "June needs to see my face first."
"Sure, sure, I'm only here to hype you up, then I'll be turning right around and going to find my folks."
Jimin let his hands slump back by his side at that. "You're... going to see them again? After all this time?"
"Better late than never," Jungkook said, poking his tongue against his cheek before chuckling. There was no humor in it. "You think they'll still say I'm a disappointment? Even after all I've done?"
"If they do, fuck em'. You made your life yours. Not everyone has a chance to do that, Jungkook. You should be proud." Jimin squeezed the younger man's shoulder. "I'm proud."
