The crew was sitting around talking when Amara's phone starts ringing. Amara looks on the phone to see Simone and Malani's mother name pop up. "She's probably checking to make sure. I haven't corrupted yall yet." Amara says showing her phone causing Simone to roll her eyes. "Mm-hmm." She hums in annoyance as Malani sighs. Her and her sister don't have the best relationship.
"She does know you're here, right?" Amara questions as she looks at Simone who avoids her gaze and Malani who looks up. " Dad knows." Malani says causing Amara to groan. "You guys....." Amara warns causing Simone to sigh. "Auntie, we need to figure out what our college future looks like, figure out what's best for me, what's best for us. And we can't do that at home." Malani explains as she crosses her arms. "It's either Tina Hicks' way or no way." Simone says rolling her eyes as Jordan puts his hand on hers.
"I won't blow up your spot under one condition. You give Bringston some careful thought this weekend." Amara says earning a smile from Simone. "I know you guys didn't come to scout the school, but just consider it. I think it could be a good fit... For both of you, for all of you, actually." Amara says as Simone grabs Jordan's hand and Malani smiles.
"All right. I'll bite. What makes HBCUs so special?" Spencer questions looking at Amara. "It's a connection to our history, our culture." Amara explains happily.
"Black excellence." Malani says causing Amara to nod. "Exactly." Amara says."And the tennis program is really good." Simone says adding in as the crew nods. "Yeah, just maybe don't put all your eggs in the athletic basket,"Amara advises, her phone buzzing in her hand. She glances at the screen to see it's Keisha calling. "Keisha, shouldn't you be getting ready for... Damn. Ok, I'm on my way," Amara says, hanging up. She turns to the group. "Big fashion show emergency. Let's go," she instructs, rising from her seat.
"It's a fashion show. How big of an emergency can it be?" Jordan questions as everyone stands up.
...
"Listen, I'm a miracle worker with cover-up and a contour brush, but even I can't fix this craziness." Nate says turning around the chair to reveal the girl. "Ooh" everyone says in unison as they cringe at the girl. "We are not putting her on the stage like that. Not my fashion show." Nate says putting his hand on his hips. The girl's face was red and blotchy all over, obvious that putting makeup would just irritate her skin more. "Dr. Patterson, you're our advisor, you know the routine, so like-" Keisha starts but Amara cuts her off.
"Oh, no, no, no," Amara refused, "But, Simone, you used to dance." Keisha looked at Simone who shakes her head. " Uh, Malani still dances. "Simone says giving the attention to Malani who shakes her head. "Uh uh"
"OK, you know what? You're all doing it. Symmetry. You'll be fine. And you have an hour until curtain. That's like a year in dancer time." Amara orders checking her watch.
"OK. But I didn't say yes." Malani says trying to get out of it." You did. You said, "next song...promise." Keisha says recalling earlier. "You did say that" olivia says. "Who's side are you on?" Malani asks. "Well, the next song's here, sweetie, so let's go. Come on." Keisha says grabbing Simone's hand. "You'll be fine." Keisha reassures them. "I..." malani says but it speechless. " You're OK." Keisha assured her. "Come--" Simone says grabbing malani's hand.
....Damon walks in the auditorium with his best friend JR. "Hey, what's the deal with Coach Turner anyway?." Damon says looking at his best friend as the people around him are chatting. "I thought Coach Shaw would be the one with the stick up his ass" Jr jokes as they both sit down.
"Heh. Coach Turner's the real deal. That dude's just mad stressed lately." JR says as Damon pulls out his phone. "Why? You all are a championship team." Damon questions as he puts his phone in his pocket. "I don't know." JR answers shrugging.
