Just My Luck

It was Annie and Thomas' anniversary today, and they decided to invite Claire, and I to dinner at this amazing, most expensive restaurant. As I was getting ready I got a text from Annie telling me once I'm done to go straight to her apartment. I decided to wear this long, tight , beautiful black dress and I wore my hair up in a perfect messy bun. After I finished putting on lipstick, I grabbed my purse and headed to Annie's place. She greeted me and right as I walked in there he was William. He noticed me and waved, I waved back and looked at Annie. She still is trying to get us together and I love her for that, but I know it won't happen for a very long time.

"What is William doing here?" I asked secretly.

"I don't know, Thomas invited him." She said, I shook my head,I saw William coming up to Annie and I. Annie walked away and here we are again.

"Hi." He says, smiling.

"Hi." I said, looking into those gorgeous brown eyes.

I have to admit it, he is undeniably handsome, with that charming smile and his captivating eyes that can light up any room. His natural charisma and confidence only enhance his appeal. His striking features and warm personality make him irresistibly attractive.

"Okay, is everyone ready?" Annie asked.

"Oh, Nick is running late, but he will meet us at the restaurant." Thomas added.

We stepped into the cozy, dimly-lit restaurant, the soft hum of conversations and clinking cutlery filling the air. The waiter gracefully led the way to our table. William pulled my chair out for me, what an actual gentleman. Across from me was Annie,Thomas and Claire, who were engaged in a light conversation. The restaurant was a bit cold for me, so William noticed my shiver. He took his jacket off and put it on me. I smiled and thanked him.

"I have a few contractors in mind that would be perfect for the job." He said. "They are based in England, and I was wondering if you would like to go to England with me?" He continued.

He is asking me to go to England with him. I have always dreamed of going to England ever since I was a little girl, but one thing is I have never been on a plane, and I'm terrified of planes. I can't say no.

"Of course, I would love to." I said.

"Everyone, this is Nick, my co-worker." Thomas said, making me look up at him and Jackson. Just my luck. I locked eyes with Jackson, my hands trembling slightly as I encountered the moment I would see him again. It was as if time had stopped, and the air around me grew thick with memories I had tried so hard to bury. I felt my heart stop. I felt a cold shiver run down my spine, I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. All I wanted to do was run, but my legs felt like they were cemented to the floor. The man I thought I ran away from is back. I got up from the table and walked away, Annie called out to me, but I just wanted out of this restaurant. I hurried out of the restaurant and out of the dimly lit streets, my mind racing with thoughts of what to do next. I need to go home, somewhere safe where he wouldn’t think to look for me.

"Adaline." I heard William call out.

I turned around to him and gave him a soft smile. I know it's Annie's anniversary, but I can't be near Jackson. I see Annie walking towards me with a concerned look.

"Is everything okay?" She asked.

"I don't feel too good, I felt light headed." I said, which is true.

"Maybe you should go home and rest." She said.

"But it's your anniversary and I feel so bad." I said.

"It's fine, William, maybe you could take her home?" Annie asked.

I gave Annie a hug and followed William out of the restaurant. He waved a taxi down and opened the door for me, I got in and scooted to the other seat and he got in. He told the driver my address. Seeing Jackson for the first time in months was a stark reminder of the nightmares I had to live through. I felt small and powerless again, just as I had so many times before, but in fear I knew I had survived him once, and I knew I would survive again. I have to.
