The Realm of Smash consisted of six territories: the Mushroom Lands in the North; the Badlands situated in the Northeast, right next to the Mushroom Kingdom; the largest nation, Hyrule, was in the centre of the continent, south of the Mushroom Lands; the smallest nation on the continent was the Gerudo Valley, surrounded by various mountain ranges, only shared true border crossing with Hyrule and the Smash Territory; Dreamland rested below Hyrule on the southern coast; and the aforementioned Smash Territory, which was tucked to the Southwest of the Realm. All these lands were their own sovereign Kingdoms, overlooked by Master Hand. The normal, laissez-faire nature of existence was broken one fateful morning: a message was sent to the various royal families and political figures of the continent. Master Hand was found dead in Smashville, the largest city in the Smash Territory.

Soon after the death of Master Hand, the killer's identity became very clear: Ganondorf. A few days after the death of Master Hand, amidst the confusion and mourning, Ganondorf marched an army spearheaded by his own Gerudo into Smashville. During the wake, the powerful figureheads from all around the Realm were forced to bend the knee. On that day, The Day of Ascension, Ganondorf became Ganon, First of His Name, King of Smash, Prince of the Gerudo Valley, and Protector of the Realm... Among the common folk, he was simply known as Ganon I, The Conqueror.

In kneeling to the King, the royal families relinquished their status and titles, but the King's Mercy let them keep their lands and downgraded their titles... Now, instead of Princesses and Kings across the Realm of Smash, there were Lords and Ladies that looked over provinces, sworn to uphold the King's Justice. Soon, it became clear just how Ganon amassed such a large army in so little time: Bowser, Mewtwo, Meta Knight, Wolf, Dark Pit, and Captain Falcon were appointed to King Ganon's Small Council, with Bowser being chosen as the Hand of the King. In addition, they each were given various lands and keeps across the Disputed Territory, an action by the King that reeked of nepotism.

In the aftermath of King Ganon's Ascension, the kingdoms were left to their own devices to adjust to the new normal. Biding their time as Lords and Ladies to their new territories. There began rumours, that started as whispers in the darkest corners of the most shanty taverns in the land, that several powerful people fled the Realm entirely... Various ships were allegedly seen leaving the Bay of Smashville, ferrying across the Orange Ocean, to the Lands of Sarasa. Directly south, across the sea, another laid claim to the new Throne of Smash; Marth, First of His Name, King of Ylisse, The True King of the Realm of the Smash, and Protector of the Realm. If those rumours are to be believed, then he too has an army of the same size as Ganon's, composed of the fiercest fighters in the world.

Those who could not escape the city during King Ganon's Ascension in time found their own lives to live, sworn to shaky, half hearted oaths in order to survive... Not everyone could be so lucky to flee North or join the Ylissi Army across the ocean, half a world away...
