Empty. That's the only way Neteyam felt after his attempt. The feeling of that disgusting rope wrapped around his neck still clung to his skin as he choked for air. Thank god the rope snapped.
In late February, it all began. Neteyam's parents had both gotten into a terrible car crash, his father dying on impact. His mother, Neytiri, barely made it out alive with a couple bruises here and there. As the eldest, he was expected to take care of his three siblings. Since the entire household was in complete devastation, outbursts were regular. Lo'ak began rebelling, more than he usually did. He began getting home late, smelling strongly of weed and cheap booze. As for Kiri, she barely came home at all. She refused to come to her father funeral, or ever visit her sickly mother in hospital. She spent most, if not all of her time with her lover, Roxto. Tuk...well, tried not to let everything effect her. She was still a kid, after all. But with everyone acting so differently, she began slipping further and further into a depressive state.
As weeks turned into months, Neytiri finally made a recovery, returning home to her, now very different, children. Now that there was an actual adult in the house, Neteyam finally got a break from worrying about everyone. He could finally let go of being the responsible eldest. Or so, he thought.
Because Lo'ak was so caught up in trying to forget, he began hanging out with the wrong people. People who were up to no good. They would usually smoke cigarettes behind Omaticaya High School, and drink shitty alcohol in random alleys. This was around the time they found out Lo'ak had an older brother, Neteyam. They found it amusing that the school's top boy was the older brother of a rebel who skipped class and did drugs for fun. But what they found especially entertaining, was the fact that Neteyam was a closeted gay.
In April, the boys began their dirty work. They started off with teasing, and name calling. Typical bully stuff. Neteyam chose to ignore it at first, since it didn't really affect him. But once they didn't get the reaction they wanted, they started getting more extreme. They began slashing the teachers tires, and graffitiing the walls, blaming everything on Neteyam. After a couple detentions, Neteyam got sick of it. He confronted the boys, telling them to quit being a nuisance. this only prompted the boys to go further.
In June, they began getting physical. It started with light shoves, possibly a hard enough one to push him to the ground. But after a while, they began leaving bruises and marks all over him. They would find Neteyam after school, drag him behind a building, beat him to the point his vision was blinded by blood, and then leave. This was the routine for weeks. Though Aonung, Neteyam's boyfriend, didn't appreciate this. He decided to call the police, telling them about what had been going on. All four boys were arrested and thrown into jail for assault. But the damage had been done.
September 8th, 2023, Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan attempted to end his own life.
Neteyam had pondered on the idea of suicide a few times in his life. He questioned how it was done, when someone knows they're going to do it, why people want to commit, or, what happens when your eyes eventually do fall shut for the last time. But, he'd never have guessed he would get to the point he wanted so desperately to find the answer to those questions.
After a small bit of research, he found how to tie a noose. It was relatively easy, but that didn't matter. what mattered, was that it was good enough to choke him. He waited until everyone was out of the house, doing their own things. That's when his plan took place.
Neteyam went outside, tied the noose around a sturdy tree branch, and places a stool underneath. He stepped up, taking the loop of rope into his hands before slowly placing it around his neck and glancing up at the sky. He took a deep breath in before slowly stepping off the stool, his body hanging in the air. Naturally, his instinct to the pain was to flinch and panic, coughing and grabbing onto the rope in a desperate way. The rope swung back and forth, Neteyam's weight causing it to stretch. As the world was going black around Neteyam, the sound of a loud snap could be heard before he felt his body drop to the floor, rope still wrapped around his neck.
The next thing he could remember, was waking up in a hospital gown, flowers on one of his bedside tables, and cards on the other. His eyes fluttered open, looking around to discover he was in a hospital bed. He slowly sits up, looking around further as he rubs his eyes. As he attempts to breath through his mouth, a sharp pain causes his breath to hitch, his throat throbbing with a burning pain. It was horrible...
As of currently, Neteyam sits in a hospital bed, the sound of a heart rate monitor beeping quietly in the background. The sky is grey, clouds looming over head of the hospital as small droplets of rain fall to the ground. It only adds to the depression aposphere of the whole situation. He had been awake in the hospital for a couple days, now. Just...sitting. Suddenly, the knock of a door catches Neteyam's attention. Aonung walks in, a bundle of flowers in his hand as he slowly closes the door behind him.
"...Hi, Teyam" He mumbles, taking a couple steps closer to the fragile boy. "How have you been holding up?" He asks quietly, sitting down next to him and gently taking Neteyam's hand in his own. He places the flowers aside, his full attention on Neteyam, and Neteyam only.
In Aonung's opinion, Neteyam didn't look...human. At least, not in that moment. It looked like all life had been sucked from his body, just flesh and bone left as a vesle. His eyes were unusually empty, his face pale. Neteyam's true, inside beauty...was stripped of him. It broke Aonung's heart just looking at him...and if he was being honest with himself, that was the reason it took him so long to visit. He was afraid. Afraid Neteyam would be different. And he was.
"...Can you speak?" Aonung asks, his hands still gently holding Neteyam's as he waits for a reply. As Neteyam shakes his head, Aonung sighs quietly. He understands. When Aonung's friend, Zaie, tried to commit, his throat was absolutely destroyed for weeks. 'It must be hell for him' Aonung thinks to himself, swallowing as the grief hits him like a ton of bricks.
"Do you want anything?" Aonung mumbles, his voice quiet as he speaks. Neteyam seems to be in thought for a moment before slowly shuffling over, patting the space next to him. Aonung stares in confusion for a while, the lack of voice making communication worse than it already was. After a couple moments, Aonung slowly gets the hint "You want me to sit beside you?" He asks softly, to which Neteyam nods. Aonung hesitates for a moment before slowly climbing into the uncomfortable hospital bed, pulling the covers over both him and Neteyam's legs. Neteyam slowly wraps his arms around Aonung, pulling him into a much needed embrace. Aonung pauses for a brief moment before tearing up and slowly wrapping his arms around Neteyam and pulling him so close.
"I-I thought I...lost you..." Aonung manages to breath out through a choked cry, tears dripping down his cheeks as he holds Neteyam close to him. Neteyam digs his head into Aonung's chest, his tears soaking the taller boy's shirt as they both sit there, crying in each other's arms.
"Please don't leave me here...I don't know what I'd do without you..." Aonung whimpers, his tears slowly subsiding as he rubs small circles into Neteyam's back, attempting to soothe the small boy. Neteyam lets out quiet sighs, seeming as though he's attempting to speak.
"Stay with me...Just for tonight" Neteyam manages, his voice hoarse and quiet. It's so raspy and rough, like nails on a chalkboard. The sound sends Aonung back into a state of tears, holding Neteyam close as the room echoes with sniffles and quiet cries.
"I'll stay...I'll stay as long as you need" Aonung whispers back, his other hand through Neteyam's hair as the pair sit, comfortable to finally be back in each others embrace.
