As the night progressed, Jungkook's nervousness slowly faded away. It was because he could sense that Jin was making him feel comfortable around him.
The mere fact that he's having dinner with his dream man was making him feel too overwhelmed. Furthermore, the idea of spending the night with him was taking him to the clouds.
But he tried to relax and give Jin a more manageable conversation. He was keen to show his true self and real feelings for the Chairman. So he calmly ate the food they ordered, sipped on the red wine served and took in the aesthetic ambiance of the fancy restaurant.
Given his efforts to stay sane the whole time, Jungkook still couldn't help but stare at Jin's beauty with his rounded doe eyes. And the Chairman did not miss this at all.
"How was your food, Mr. Jeon?" Jin asked with a small smile. He was feeling amused by how the younger stared at him.
He used to get this a lot everywhere he goes - but Jungkook's stare was different. It was not easy for him to figure out why, but Jin was sure that the younger's gaze was making him feel all the butterflies in his tummy, fumbling and tumbling.
"Huh uhm, the steak is really good, Chairman Jin. And their wine really goes well with this. It seems to me that the whole entrée was very well thought. Thank you for inviting me to this kind of place." Jungkook answered, trying his best not to stutter too much.
"I'm glad you liked it. Do you drink a lot?"
"Just occasionally, Sir. But I can handle my alcohol just fine, even with soju or hard whiskey."
"Ah really? We can be good drinking buddies then. Well, coz for me, drinking is my favorite get-away or outlet. Some people travel to have their relaxation, but me - I drink to relax and destress. I'm not an alcoholic though, so don't think that."
"No, no. Of course, not, Sir. I wouldn't think that about you. Uhm- but would you be accepting me as a drinking buddy? You mean- we can still hang out in the future? You're not going to fire me?!"
"I don't know why you thought I'll be firing you."
"It's what I heard when you were talking to your assistant."
Jin stared up to the ceiling as he thought, then he looked back at Jungkook, "Ah. That- no, that's not it. You thought wrong coz maybe I whispered my response to that.
I have no plans to fire you, Mr. Jeon. In fact, I wanted to commend you for calling out the anomalies happening in your department. Not all lower ranked employees have the courage to do that against their managers."
"S-so this dinner isn't for firing me?!"
"No. I wanted to talk to you properly because the HR is planning to conduct a disciplinary action regarding this matter. I'd like to assure you that you're not in trouble at all and that I would need your cooperation all throughout this process.
Also, you know that being involved in disciplinary actions can affect your running for being employee of the year. But please be aware that I won't let this tamper your chances to win."
"Oh- is that really what's this about?"
"Yes. And apart from that, I'd like to personally ask for your help if you could join me and our CFO in this project in tracking these anomalies. I have a hunch that these people wouldn't do such things without bigger names backing them up. So I know they won't easily spill their wrongdoings.
I want it to be a lowkey investigative project so I'm recruiting only the most trustworthy. Can I trust you on this, Mr. Jeon?"
"I- of course, Chairman Jin. You can definitely count on me. But-- who would dare go against you?! You're one of the most competent young CEO's in the whole of South Korea. Why would anyone take the risk of ruining your company?"
