"SON OF A BITCH!!"
That was what Hope awoke to when she slept on her sleeping bag in the cabin living room next to the couch. Whatever she expected to wake up to wasn't someone yelling profanity. She sat straight up after being scared by her cousin's yelling. She looked to her right and saw Ellie in distress with an angry expression. "What's wrong, Ellie?" She asked, concern in her voice. Ellie showed Hope her phone screen.
It showed two names. Darcy Simmons. Hannah Hastings. They appeared to be in Los Angeles. Just as Hope was about to ask Ellie what was happening, Liam barged in, clearly tired and annoyed. "It's 5 AM in the morning. Why the hell are you up?" Hope tried to soothe her husband. "Liam, please-" Ellie ran her hands over her face. "I'm sorry I woke you. I usually wake up at this hour. I checked my phone and..." She trailed off, showing Liam what she showed Hope.
"I had no idea they were coming here. I thought they were gonna stay in Canada to help rebuild." Liam's expression softened slightly "You mean you thought they wouldn't come here" Hope came over to Ellie, placing a hand on her lap "I'm sorry. I know-" Ellie cut her off "Why are you sorry? I should be the one apologising, for you waking you both up, and now this" Hope shook her head "There's no way you've could've known. Don't beat yourself up over this"
Liam backed up his wife "Yeah. Look, this isn't your fault. They look like they're at the airport, so that gives us some time to prepare. Well, you both more than me at least" Hope moved her hand from Ellie's lap to her arm "We'll figure this out. For now, let's just... try to get some rest" Ellie sighed, big and dramatic as she slumped on the couch "Sorry, but I don't think I can. I just feel too anxious" Hope breathed, a thoughtful, relaxed breath. She suddenly came up with an idea.
"Liam, are you able to make us both some coffee?" Liam raised an eyebrow, but nodded his head "Sure. I'll be back with them" He went to make coffee, leaving the 2 cousins alone. Ellie immediately broke down in tears "I'm so sorry. I should've... I thought-" Hope cut her off by hugging her "Shh, this isn't your fault, Ellie. Look, we'll find a way to sort this out. Do you have their numbers?" She felt Ellie nod her head on her shoulder "I'm so sorry, Hope"
Hope broke from the embrace, still holding on to Ellie "Don't be sorry. Do you think we should call them?" Ellie shook her head, massaging her temples "They're not gonna answer. Besides, we got a movie to see, not friends to hang out with" Hope smiled "You mean, your friends, right?" Ellie laughed bitterly "Yeah. They didn't even think about you" Hope hummed in a questioning manner. Ellie sighed, guilt building in the pit of her stomach.
"I was worried that anyone else coming to meet you, or rather, my friends trying to support me, would be too much and cause you to snap" Hope brought Ellie into a hug, sympathy filling her heart "I'm sorry you're stressed out like this, and I appreciate you caring for me and my well being, but please don't overthink it. It's not good for you" Ellie cried as she wrapped her arms around Hope "I'm so sorry. I never meant for this to happen"
Hope pulled away, taking hold of Ellie's hands "This isn't a big deal. I'm thankful you're looking out for my well-being, but don't put this guilt on yourself. You had no clue this would happen. Look, clearly this is causing you some distress, and their intentions were good. Only thing is, you found out before they got here, which caused you to nearly have a panic attack and that's not flying with me" Ellie rolled her eyes. It was something she often did when she was upset about something.
"So what, we just tell them to get the fuck outta here when they come?" Hope looked surprised "No. They were trying to help" Ellie looked defeated "Got any ideas? Cos I'm all out" Hope nodded, smirking "What if we swap clothes?" Ellie's eyes widened as a smile formed on her lips "That's an amazing idea! They'll never see it coming!" Hope laughed "Good to know my idea's cheered you up. Did you bring any spare clothes?" Ellie chuckled, winking as she smirked.
