"I think I'm losing the plot, Alex." I whimper as I lean onto the counter with my forearms.

Alex sips on his iced latte and examines me. "What do you mean?"

I groan and straighten my spine again, grabbing a tea towel to wipe my damp hands from making Alex's cold drink. I chew on my lip and stare back into his grey eyes. "I don't know how to flirt anymore, I'm literally a blushing mess whenever I'm around Declan and it's embarrassing."

He snorts and I gape at him. "Luca, you used to flirt with me all the time."

"No I didn't," I state.

Alex laughs and nods. "Yeah, you did. I was the one who didn't know how to flirt, you were very forward and confident. Words were a little flirty, suggestive at times."

I find myself blinking at him rapidly before I rub the back of my head. "Did I actually?"

He nods with a smile.

"Shit," I extend my head to the ceiling. "So this is worse than I suspected."

"Why?"

"Because I'm pretty sure Declan was flirting with me the other day and I practically turned into a ketchup bottle and a blubbering mess," I groan, burying my face in my hands. Not wanting to think back when he joked about taking his t-shirt off when he decorated. I don't need to be thinking about his possible abs and his lickable biceps.

What... Lickable biceps? I need to be put in time out.

"I don't know how to flirt anymore. I don't know how to be playful with him. My body just shuts down when he says anything that makes my heart race." I close my eyes and exhale a short breath.

"You're overthinking this," Alex reassures me. "Do you not think it's because he's a good looking man, you've had a few months away from the dating scene and you've just lost a bit of confidence."

I hum in response, my eyes focusing on a sharp chip in the counter.

"Or it's because you really, really, like him. More than you thought you liked me or anyone else you've been dating. Everything changes when you fancy someone for real, it's like you forget how to function and talk like a normal person." Alex comments before placing his drink back down on the counter.

When my feet become restless, I pace in front of him, shaking away those thoughts. I told myself not to start fantasising about him or grow any more feelings because he's now my business partner and this can't get messy. It can't.

"You look like you're deep in thought," Alex raises a brow when I stop and look at him.

"I need to get over him."

"Right..." he trails off. "Like that's going to work, you're already in deep."

I groan and fake a sob. "You're meant to be on my side here!"
