✧The last few days have been a whirlwind for the cafe. We've been worked off our feet to say the least. With the re-opening, it regenerated a brand new realm of customers from across the town. Sparking interest in our new lunch menu along with the new fancy drinks Luca came up with.
I've been busy working on a business plan. It's all well and good making sales but we need to be putting it back into the cafe to make it bigger and better. I've barely spoken to Luca because the amount of workload we have is crazy.
But crazy is good because they need this attention to their business.
They deserve this attention.
On Wednesday evening I head over to Nick's to grab something of mine that he borrowed over a year ago and I always forget to pick it up. Any excuse to go and see my cute niece. She's the bonus–as well seeing my brother of course.
Nick opens the door and I can already tell he's had a stressful day. He has always looked quite youthful considering he began his journey into club thirty a few months ago, but when he's tired his face slumps. We were not blessed with good bags, I'll tell you that.
"Hey," he grunts.
I nod at him and step inside. "Hi, you good?"
"No," he mumbles as he shuts the door after me.
"Thought as much."
I walk through the hall towards his kitchen where a bottle of whiskey is already laying and two empty glasses. I turn towards my brother and quirk an eyebrow. "Don't ask," he shakes his head and grabs the bottle.
"I'm going to ask."
"Uncle Declan!" Elodie runs around the corner. I turn to her and offer her a bright smile.
I lean down to pick her up and I place her in my arms, tickling her belly. "Hello you," I say before kissing her cheek. "Have you been giving your dad a hard time?"
Elodie's eyes fall and she shakes her head. "No. Why... have I upset you, daddy?"
Oh God. My heart lurches at her soft, innocent voice. I glance at Nick and he sighs. "Of course not, pumpkin. Daddy's just having a bad day, remember? It's not about you at all."
"Then what?" I say as I place Elodie down and she runs towards her iPad.
Nick watches her and then pours us two very large glasses of whiskey. "With the production of my new app coming out, I'm desperate for a nanny for Elodie. I can't be here all the time and it's not fair to shove her on mum. Besides, I'd prefer her here and in the house where she's comfortable."
I take the glass from across the counter. "And what's the problem?"
"No one is suitable at all."
My lips latch onto the edge of my drink and I take a slow sip. "Or are you just too picky?"
