"I'm tryna talk to you" I said to Flau'jae who was distracted by the dog, "You let damn near the entire year go by, and now your birthday is tomorrow"
She continued to play with the dog before I reached over and turned her face towards me. I can't believe I'm being replaced with a dog.
"Baby I'm listening"
"What are you doing for your birthday?" I asked before simply receiving a shrug
"I don't wanna do nothing, you keep asking me that and I tell you the same thing"
"Because you have to do something"
"No I don't mamas, I just wanna be home with you" she said before I sighed and just accepted that as her answer
"What do you want?"
I already have gifts for her, so she's under the impression that she's getting nothing. If she say she wants anything else, I'm gonna get it last minute.
"You having my baby, that's all I want and need"
"Alright well, what we doing for thanksgiving. Should I cook and everybody come over?"
"No cause you gone be tired from cooking. Maybe next year, but not this year" she said before I thought about it
I be tryna do nice gestures and forget about myself in the process. If I already get tired just from doing nothing, I'm gonna be tired from standing on my feet cooking.
"You're right"
"I don't know what your people's doing, but my momma cooking. Ain't too many of us gone be over there cause everybody in Atlanta"
"My family's doing the normal, you know everybody's coming from back home" I said before she just shook her head
I laughed because she's becoming less amused by my family everyday. I don't blame her, so I can't even be mad.
"It's finna be a repeat of last year" she said before we both started laughing
"I can't get to nobody how I could last year, I'm bringing mace this year"
Last year, I fought two of my cousins and now we don't talk. Every family event, we walk past each other.
It is what it is, and I'll do it again.
"You can't be doing all that, mamas"
"I'm playing but I'm not, but I'm playing. If they don't start no shit, it won't be no shit" I said with a simple shrug
"A mess"
"Definitely a mess, but can we go get Starbucks?"
"Your doctor said you can't have caffeine, you want ice cream?" she asked causing me to shake my head no
"It's not like it's liquor"
"You still can't have it, you don't even drink coffee" she gave me a weird look before l chuckled
"I have the taste for it and I want it now"
"Well you can't have that, baby"
"Alright, I'll just get ice cream or something" I said because fuck it, I just want something sweet
We left making it to some ice cream shop. I don't know if I'm crazy for wanting ice cream in November.
"You really not gone give me none?" I asked Flau'jae before she chuckled, "You're not suppose to be eating ice cream anyway"
