Jane had been waiting for Max for ten minutes. They had arranged to watch a romantic movie, an idea that came from Jane, as Max generally didn't like this genre of films. However, she had made an exception for her girlfriend.

But Jane had another idea in mind. It had been almost a month since the two girls had started dating, and even though they hadn't told anyone, they both considered themselves to be in a relationship.

Soon, the school was organizing a big Valentine's Day ball. Jane wanted to invite Max to the party, but she was afraid that she would refuse. They had never really talked about discussing their relationship with their friends, and even though going to the ball together didn't necessarily mean that, there would still be rumors.

Jane repeated the sentence she had come up with the night before to ask Max to accompany her to the party, but she was interrupted by a car parking a few meters away. A redhead stepped out, and the eyes of the two girls met.

They smiled at each other, and Max rushed towards Jane before embracing her tightly. Jane noticed that Max was wearing a different perfume than she usually wore. She pointed it out, which made the redhead girl embarrassed.

"Uh, yeah, I changed, don't you like it?" she said. The brunette smiled and took her hand to reassure her. "No, you smell really good." She brought the redhead's hand to her mouth and gave it a small kiss, which made Max blush.

The two girls started talking as they entered the cinema. When they arrived in the theater, they found it almost empty, except for a few people. They settled in the back and continued their conversation while waiting for the movie to start.

As the movie had been playing for a while, Max was getting bored. Romantic movies were really not her thing, filled with stereotypes at every levels. She turned her head to see her girlfriend's face and noticed that she was much more captivated by the story. Stars were shining in her eyes as a clichés romantic scene unfolded. Max let out a slight mocking laugh and leaned closer to Jane to whisper, "By drooling over this movie, I might start thinking you're straight, you know."

Jane's cheeks instantly turned red, and she was relieved that the theater was dark, so the readhead couldn't see her reaction. She gently placed her hand over Max's mouth and whispered for her to be quiet and watch the movie. Max sighed in response and slumped further into her seat.

Jane noticed how completely bored her girlfriend was with the movie. She moved closer to her and planted a kiss on her cheek, making her jump. "Thank you for watching this movie even if you don't like it," she whispered. Max looked at her and placed her hand on top of Jane's, giving it a gentle squeeze. "You're here, that's what matters," she said.

A wave of happiness washed over Jane, and she rested her head on Max's shoulder to watch the movie better.

Looking back on it, their love story had nothing to do with the movie. If Jane had to choose between that clichéd story and the one she was living with Max, she would choose the latter every single time.

The movie ended, and the lights came on, allowing people to leave the theater. The two girls also left and noticed that the sun was about to set.

Max let out a sigh of relief. "That movie was really..." Jane laughed and playfully bumped into her girlfriend. "Okay, I got it. Next time, we'll go see a horror or action movie." Max tilted her head back, joining in the laughter. The two girls walked through the city streets, hand in hand, discreetly hiding their affection when they passed someone. Max was afraid of being caught by someone she knew. She hadn't fully embraced her sexuality yet, and even though she tried to act like everything was fine in front of her girlfriend, she still had her difficult moments.

Jane had noticed that Max hid their intertwined hands in public, and even though it broke her heart, she accepted that her girlfriend wasn't completely comfortable in front of others. She looked at Max and saw a radiant smile on her face. She didn't want to ruin this happiness, so she decided to postpone her invitation to the Valentine's Day ball and spend the rest of her evening with the person she loved the most in the world.
