The island base was once graced with bright, sunny days with a few clouds floating by, providing beautiful days and high spirits for all. But a few weeks after Admiral Standal arrived, it was constantly cloudy with gray skies, representing the morale of Azur Lane. Thankfully, there hadn't been any extreme weather, but Naruto wouldn't be surprised if the skies opened up as he escorted a group of Destroyer girls to the dorms from the Academy. It was more for their benefit, as their big sisters rarely came by, and Naruto was the only one to put the little shipgirls at ease. The sweeping changes made by Admiral Standal were extremely detrimental to morale, and with four ranks between them, Naruto could do nothing to stop them; his complaints and concerns were overruled and fell on deaf ears to the new man in charge.
But it didn't stop Naruto from doing some investigating. After what Standal did to Formidable, there was no way he would allow his skills to rust a second more.
For one, the Admiral singled out all the bustiest shipgirls and put them on "different assignments." The fact that he'd recalled everyone from the outposts and patrols, and took aside those at least D-cup and up, further cemented that theory. Two, he'd outright stripped them of their personal quarters, and would lock them away somewhere at night. When the girls were released, they were made to worship him via offering their prayers to a picture of him every morning without raising their heads. Worse, when Naruto would speak to them to get reports and updates, they were not even allowed to look at him.
What. The. Fuck.
It was ridiculous, and the changes threatened to weaken the most powerful fleet of the Global Navy. There were times that Naruto tried to get to the Admiral, but was either stopped at every turn, and he was too busy even for "emergencies". Practice drills were few, and the Destroyers were missing their big sisters and mother figures dearly. Even worse, there were reports that the Sirens were stepping up their attacks, destroying the outports that had been abandoned, and were now executing guerrilla tactics on the other Navy bases.
If this keeps up, the Sirens are gonna show up at an unwelcome time and decimate the weakened miracle that is Azur Lane.
After seeing the rest of the younger shipgirls into the dorms, Naruto got a call as he was heading to the docks.
"This is Captain Uzumaki."
"Naruto, it's Lieutenant Yuuji!"
"Yuuji, is everything alright?"
"I wish! Rodin was sent to one of the outposts that was hit a week ago. We haven't heard from him since!"
"I feared as much when he didn't return my calls. What about the rest of you? What's your status?"
"It feels like an attack's gonna come at any minute here at the main base! We've all been telling Command, but they're not even taking it seriously! On that note, they've been acting really weird, and if it continues, that planned mutiny might happen!"
"A mutiny? It sounds that bad then. Then that means that my official reports for the past few days are being ignored. By the way, what do you know about this mutiny? Who's pulling those strings?"
"No one knows, but rumor has it that it's a new member of Command that's looking to take charge. They seem to have a vested interest in you. If you want, I can try to get their identity so we know who they're dealing with."
