Sam decided to go alone this time and meet Y/N's mother. Knowing that Tara was probably not entirely rational when it came to this whole situation.

"I'm really surprised you called me out like that." Entering the café, the older woman began.

Sam paid her one look before suggesting she sit down. The woman pushed back her chair and hung her coat on the back of the seat.

"I wasn't sure if it would have any effect myself, but I know Y/N's father used to be tied up in this whole Ghostfac thing... With the first and original one."

"You're right, I recently got word that he was attacked and is lying in hospital. I visited him to ask him for some details."

"So?" Sam raised an eyebrow wanting to know more.

The woman gravely frowned and said. "There are two of them."

Sam was shocked for a moment but momentarily returned to her previous serious expression and sighed. "Like a year ago... God this is so stiff. Anything else?"

"They're well prepared, too well prepared. At least that's what he told me. Also, he added, they had information that is not generally available, that is secretly for the police to see. Such as the home addresses of him, his family, and our children. What unit he works in and what actions he goes on. When the former can still be overlooked as such it is fairly easy to dig into them, the latter is a matter of utmost protection. No one but the unit he was in could have information on where he would be the day he was attacked he was sent on one of these very actions, I won't tell you what he was doing there and what his purpose was because I don't know myself... But for some reason, Ghostface was able to attack him right on it... Which I have to say was stupid on their part."

"How so?" Sam asked intrigued.

"They sold themselves out, literally. They gave us more information than they might have expected." Some measure of sub-excitement appeared on the woman's face. "They have a connection to someone from the police. And that someone is a rather high-profile person."

Sam shuddered. "I don't want to believe it, but why?"

The woman shook her head. "I'm not in a position to tell you, maybe fun, maybe revenge, or maybe something else."

Despite her earlier reluctance, Sam was pleased with the information she had obtained, she could calmly say with complete honesty. "Thank you so much, it gives us a lot... I will tell Tara how you helped us-"

The woman raised her hand to say nothing and a sincere smile appeared on her face. "I don't deserve any good words from you, I've already failed my own child enough, I don't deserve anything like that."

Sam understood. A year ago, she and Tara still had little contact with each other, which had affected their relationship significantly. But the situation with Ghostface had strengthened them and their bond was stronger than ever. "Okay, I won't say anything... Tell me one thing, do you happen to have access to your ex-husband's gun?" Sam smirked.

The woman looked confused, but after a moment she understood. "Well... is confined to a hospital bed, and has given me the keys to look after his house while he is not there... And there's probably a gun safe in there so..."

Sam nodded and quickly got up from her chair. "Good! You're in, I'll write down the meeting place for you, get there with a gun it will come in handy... You'll redeem your sins, save Y/N, and live in the peace of mind that you are capable of sacrificing for him. There is no better feeling than that... Believe me."

"Okay, I'm not going to run away anymore."

"That's fine, until later..." And so Sam left the café.
