(it won't let me put pictures of the two species so just look them up on the CoS wiki if you want to see what they look like lol)

Sahara frantically flew through the cloudy skies, her dull yellow wings beating as hard as they could as she raced away from the desert she had once called home. Other Banishiis, that she had once known as her friends and family, zoomed after her, snapping at her tail as she rushed away. She was still in disbelief, trying to process the entire situation.

Every year, Banishii packs would have an aging ceremony for the oldest adolescents. Pairs of Banishii that were of the same age would battle. Whoever won would now be considered an adult that had earned their place in the pack. Those who lost, however, would be chased out, and killed if ever found in the territory again. Saharah just so happened to be one that lost.

She could perfectly recall the entire event. She proudly flew into the middle of the arena once her name was called, the crowd around cheering and screeching. She puffed up her wings and chest, expecting to win this battle and be done with it. But then they called the familiar name. "DUNEWING!"

Sahara had practically frozen in shock. Dunewing was her best friend for years. Always there to support her and lift her up. And now she would have to go to battle with them.

Without even hesitating, Dunewing had charged at her, their claws and fangs sinking into her flesh as she roared in pain. She didn't see an inch of regret in their eyes. But she couldn't bring herself to fight back. She couldn't harm one that she had cared for so deeply. She simply laid there as Dunewing continued to pummel her and toss her around, like a Fellisio kitten playing with a ball of moss. She had lost.

The memory replayed over and over again in her mind as she continued to fly away. She looked back, noticing that the other Banishiis had given up. She was finally outside of the territory. She sighed, noticing she was entering the tundra. It was too late to leave now, she barely had any energy, and the wounds Dunewing had given to her still stung. She plopped down into a thin, powdery pile of snow, panting heavily. But then she heard talons crunching through the snow.

Sahara whipped her head towards the noise, letting out a defensive hiss. She knew an injured Banishii could be easily picked off by a stronger creature that lived in the tundras. Perhaps a Nyctoxon, a Borenhir, or a Varskela...even a pack of Emphines would be terrifying. But instead, she noticed a lone Bazelli, looking at her curiously. His wings were painted with beautiful shades of purples, and Saharah couldn't help but stare.

"Um...What are you doing out here?" The Bazelli questioned, tilting his head to the side. "Living." Sahara replied sarcastically, making the Bazelli chuckle a little. "You're a desert creature, why are you out here?" He rephrased the question. Sahara frowned. "I got exiled cause I didn't wanna beat up my friend." She growled. The Bazelli then looked surprised. "I got exiled too- not for that reason, though." He shook his head.

"Well, uh..." Sahara said awkwardly, not knowing what to say or do. "Maybe we could make a truce?" The Bazelli said excitedly, his tail wagging. "Woah there, buddy. Calm down. I don't even know your name yet. I'm Sahara." Saharah smiled softly. "I'm Twilight." The Bazelli said, extending his talons for a claw-shake.

"Well, I should start trying to find my own den now." Sahara said, rising from the snow pile. However, she hissed in pain and immediately fell back down. Her wounds stung even more from the bitterly cold air that swept through the mountains. Twilight sighed. "You need to heal...how about you come to my cave?" He offered suddenly.

"You're way too nice for a Bazelli." Sahara joked, slowly getting up as she leaned on Twilight's wing. "Didn't expect to make any new friends- let alone acquaintances, this early on." She muttered as she followed Twilight to an icy cave. It was still cold, but definitely warmer than outside. It was quite cozy inside. Twilight had a tasty Cenicara carcass that he let Sahara snack on. Sahara curled up into a ball as Twilight attempted to start a fire with some sticks. They chatted for a while, learning about one another.

Eventually, Twilight gave up on the fire, deciding to just sleep without any warmth. He curled up as well as Sahara shuffled a little closer to him. "You're arguably warmer than the fire." Sahara chuckled as they both drifted off to sleep.
