The teacher continued explaining the instructions for the final project while Amelia, not paying much attention, entertained herself by making origamis.

"Hey, Amy, we're going to do the project at Chiara's house, okay?" whispered one of her classmates.

One of her classmates whispered to her about the idea of doing the project at Chiara's house, to which Amelia nodded without much interest.

Outside the window, the school routine was disrupted by the unusual activity of police and military vehicles speeding past. Intrigued, Amelia observed the scene, not fully understanding what was happening.

The alarm heightened when screams were heard from the ground floor, generating murmurs and questions among the students. The teacher tried to calm the situation by suggesting it might be a fight between students, but Amelia, sensing the tension in the air, knew something was not right. The screams didn't match a simple schoolyard brawl.

"What's happening?" asked the girl that nobody liked.

"Hey! Easy, guys! Sit down. It must be some fight between students; I'm sure they'll be taken to the principal's office..." she tried to reassure her students.

If it were a fight between students, the screams would be from people excited to know who wins. Not screams of desperation and fear.

"Let's go see," said a boy with a smile to his group of friends.

"Yeah! I want to know who wins!" exclaimed an excited boy.

"I bet it's the high schoolers who are fighting," another replied, adding a touch of mockery.

Undoubtedly, that group of elementary school children, so reckless and ignorant, would be the first to succumb to the zombie apocalypse. Their laughter and jokes about the possible fight among classmates demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation. As they headed towards the source of the screams, Amelia couldn't help but think that their lack of awareness and light-hearted attitude could cost them dearly in a world that was rapidly falling apart.

The evacuation at the school caused chaos and confusion among the students. In the midst of the crisis, Amelia witnessed for the first time the terrifying presence of a zombie banging on the school bars. The scraps of clothing on the creature confirmed her fears: it was an infection that turned humans into hungry predators.

As panic gripped everyone, Hanna, her friend, tried to drag her towards the exit.

"Come on, we have to get out of here," urged Hanna.

"But we don't know if there are more outside. It's best to stay and wait for my mom; she'll know what to do," replied Amelia, but her words fell on deaf ears.
