Marinette sat on the cold seat of the facility and watched as other people went around their own business. She nervously fiddled with her cup of coffee. She was actually going to do it...
"Hey."
She looked up and saw Felix. She smiled as he sat down across from her in the cafe of the airport. "So, excited?" Felix asked.
"No... I'm more nervous actually," Marinette chuckled, glancing at Felix's new earrings. She fiddled with her hands and bit her lip before she reached out and patted his hand. "I want to thank you..."
"No. Don't," Felix said, putting her hand in his and kissing it. "It was my pleasure."
"Good afternoon passengers. This is the pre-boarding announcement for flight 9B to Gotham. We are now inviting those passengers with small children, and any passengers requiring special assistance, to begin boarding at this time. Please have your boarding pass and identification ready at gate 3. Regular boarding will begin in approximately ten minutes time. Thank you."
"Well... That's my flight," Marinette chuckled.
She looked to where the direction of the gate was and then back at Felix. She asked, "Are you sure you can hold the fort down? I know how hard it is, seeing that I've been doing this for two years, but really, if you need any help, I'll have Kaalki–"
Felix chuckled and shook his head. "I'll be fine, Marinette. And I know what to do when I'm not."
Marinette sighed. "If you say so..."
"MARINETTE!"
Marinette barely got the chance to look when she was tackled by two boys. She laughed as she fell to the ground while Nathaniel and Nino were in her arms.
"You guys..." She cooed affectionately. "You didn't have to see me off."
"NO, BRUH! Why would you ever suggest that?!" Nino exclaimed.
"Of course, we want to see you off!" Nathaniel said, his voice louder than usual. "Why wouldn't we?!"
Marinette laughed. Then another hand was extended to hers. She looked up and saw... Luka.
A warm smile spread across her face at the familiar character and she gladly accepted when the boys finally pulled away from her. Once she was up, he pulled her in a hug.
Marinette melted in it and she realized how long she hasn't felt a hug from Luka. The older boy said, "I hope you find what your heart is looking for, Marinette." He pulled away from her and then smiled. He brushed a strand of hair away from her and softly spoke, "You deserve it."
Felix pulled Marinette away from the boy before glaring at him.
Luka was shocked before he gave out a few laughs.
"Marinette..."
Luka stepped away to let Adrien show himself with a small present.
Marinette was surprised. "Adrien..."
"I know I haven't been good to you in the past..." Adrien said as he came closer, only stopping once Felix's protective glare hardened on him. He continued, "I haven't been a good friend. I haven't been a good classmate. And you have every right not to forgive me..." He extended his gift. "But from the bottom of my heart... I'm sorry."
Marinette's eyes widened and she looked at the gift then at Adrien. She knew that Adrien was slowly redeeming himself but then he fell back again and started to avoid them. Now, here Adrien was, offering a gift of apology to her.
Marinette stared at the gift once more before accepting it.
Adrien smiled and stepped away.
"This is the final boarding call for passengers for flight 9B to Gotham City. Please proceed to gate 3 immediately. The final checks are being completed and the captain will order the doors of the aircraft to close in approximately five minutes time. I repeat. This is the final boarding call for passengers for flight 9B to Gotham City. Thank you."
"That's my flight." She smiled at the people who gathered to see her off.
She thought she was alone. All this time, she thought she was alone. But for the first time in forever, she felt like she had people with her. She had friends that are willing to stay on her side. Some were new, some were redeeming themselves, and some had been with her from the start. They were here for her now when she was about to start to a new chapter of her life.
They were here when she was about to start a new story.
One last time, she graced them with her sweetest smile. And as she began walking away from them, she waved her hand goodbye. "Thank you, everyone! Thank you!"
