A smooth breeze drifted through the window that was cracked open just a little bit, sweeping over the blanket Hanako was asleep under. Hanako rolled onto her side, mumbling to herself. "Five more minutes.. please..." She rose her hand up, imagining she was swatting at one of her parents trying to wake her up. A loud creak sounded as her father forced the door open way too quickly, making it slam against the wall, a loud bashing sound echoing around the room. Hanako squealed loudly and cupped her hands over her ears, sitting up quickly. That noise had definitely scared me out of my bed despite wanting to sleep just a few minutes longer. I heard a laugh and turned my head towards my father, my bronze eyes narrowing as I resisted the urge to threaten my father. The way he woke me up had always pissed me off beyond belief. But I didn't want to disrespect my father. I had been taught to always respect my superiors, and my parents were no exception. These thoughts were soon halted by my father announcing that breakfast was done. Hanako sighed and gestured her father to leave the room. "Oh, right! Yeah, I'll be out there in a few.." Once my dad began walking away from the door, I hopped right out of bed and over to my closet. I snagged a white shirt off of one of the many hangers in my closet and tossed it on the edge of my bed before dragging a small step stool out from the right side of the closet. Yes, I know this sounds odd, but I am quite short and the stool is the only way I can reach the top of my closet. My parents are somewhat idiotic, putting a little kid's pants on the top shelf, especially one as short as me.
Once I finally got a pair of pants down after about 10 minutes of flailing my arms around aimlessly, I quickly changed, buttoning my white shirt up as quickly as possible. I grabbed my black pair of boots and a pair socks, holding them in my arms as I ran down the stairs and jumped up, landing in my chair at the breakfast table. I quickly put my socks and boots on as I spoke to my mother. "Good morning mama! What's for breakfast today?" When I was finally done putting my socks and shoes on, I quickly sat up in my seat and looked up at her. "We are having fish, as usual..." My mother answered me, her hazel eyes locked with mine. "Okay." I looked down at my plate, tapping my fork against it lightly. I had always questioned why the hell my parents thought fish was a good idea for breakfast, especially when both of the parents were aware I'd run around and some how get the illusion that I was sea sick. Once breakfast was served, I ate quickly, which wasn't normal for me. My father, who had been reading a book averted his gaze from it for a moment to look at me. "Hanako, why are you eating so quic- ooooh that's right! You have a play-date with Kazumi today." I froze, looking down at my plate. I hadn't been aware about this play-date, but I didn't mind it. "Oh! I actually forgot about that.." I spoke to cover up my confusion. "Well he'll be over here after breakfast, but since you're already done, go brush your teeth. I'll be there in a few minutes to deal with your messy hair." My usual reaction would've been something along the lines of growling, but that time I just jumped down from my chair and walked to the bathroom. I grabbed a tooth brush and brushed my teeth, looking in a small piece of glass I labelled as the mirror. Right when I finished my dad walked in with the brush. "Come on Hanako, let's just get this out of the way." I heard him say. Sighing, I walked over to him and stood there, letting him brush my hair. I cringed a little bit, since the tangles in my hair took a lot of yanking to get out.
When he was finally finished I sighed in relief. "Alright, all done!" I heard my father exclaim happily. Right when I was about to walk out the front door, I felt my father's hand placed firmly on my shoulder. "Hey, Hanako, your mother has something for you." I looked up at him, my bronze eyes meeting his hazel eyes for a moment before I turned my head and looked at my mother, who was standing in the center of the living room with a large box in her hands. I smiled a little bit before running up to her, eagerly extending my arms forward. "What is it mama?" I heard her delightful laugh before she spoke. "Hanako, I want you to close your eyes." I nodded and cupped my hands over my eyes, the smile remaining on my face. I had always loved gifts, even if they were really small. My mom gently sat the box down on the ground and got to her knees on the floor, gently picking up one of the scarves she had made out of about 31. "Open your eyes~" My mother chimed, appearing to be a little happy. "D-does it bite?!" I stuttered, hesitating a little bit to uncover my eyes. "Unless you think cloth can bite, than no..." I sighed in relief and uncovered my eyes, a long strip of beautiful red fabric right before my eyes. Or in less fancy terms, a red scarf. "O-oh my goodness.." My mother frowned a bit in response to that. "What? Do you not like it, Hanako?" After standing there for a few more moments staring at it, I ran forward and hugged my mother tightly, the scarves bundling up between them. "Thank you mama! I love it, it's so beautiful!~" My mother leaned back a little bit and looked at me in the eyes before putting the scarf around my neck. From that moment on, I felt quite warm, and safe. But this peaceful moment was interrupted by loud knocking at the door. "Oh! That must be Kazumi and his mother!"
