III
January 18th 1978I woke up feeling sick and dizzy but knew I had to go to class.
People around me must have noticed my sickness because they kept asking how I was throughout breakfast but I just ignored it knowing it probably had to do with the upcoming moon.
I didn't even eat breakfast. I just had some black coffee, hoping that it would keep me awake throughout the day.
I sighed not wanting to be in the Great Hall any longer as I walked out towards the Transfiguration classroom, since that howler from my mother it was the talk of the school many people would point and whisper and some even just blatantly talking about how I would be just like my brother. Honestly, do these people not have anything better to do?“Mr Black.” I hear my name being called. I turn around and McGonagall is there.
“Yes, Professor?” I ask.
“Can you come with me to my office? I have something to discuss.” McGonagall asks.
“Uh, sure.” I replied. I follow McGonagall down the corridor towards her office, where she opens it and lets me in.
“So I'm sure you know what this is about,” McGonagall starts.
“The moon.” I replied.
“Indeed, we have made accommodations for you and you will go to a small cabin we have spelled for this purpose,” McGonagall says.
“Thank you for doing this.” I say with genuine gratitude.
“It's no problem. I will escort you there, so meet me in my office before each moon at six pm.” She explained.
“Okay, what will happen in the morning? I haven't done this before.” I ask.
“Well, either Poppy or I will be there to heal immediate cuts and then bring you to the Med wing.” McGonagall explains.
“Do you know if it's painful? My brother says he has a friend, but he hasn't told me anything about what will happen.” I say.
“Well, I would say it's painful, but I haven't been through a transformation. I might get that student with permission to talk to you about it if you would like.” She replied.
“I'm fine but thank you though.” I say.
“Okay, well, you better get to class, considering your first class is with me.” She says.
“Right, bye Professor.” I replied while getting up and leaving. I just get out the door before Sirius starts with his talking.
“Did she find somewhere for you?” Sirius asks anxiously.
“Yep.” I say while walking towards the Transfiguration classroom.
“That's good. How are you feeling? You look sick,” Sirius asks with a concerned tone.
“Well, I don't feel the best.” I say.
“Maybe you should go to the Med wing.” Sirius replied.
“I'm fine. This is probably nothing compared to what it will be.” I say.
“Reg, look, there is not much I can say without making you really anxious, but it's no good. It will hurt.” Sirius explains.
“Well, I'm sure it will.” I said, “If it's anything like the bite, I know it will hurt.” I say.
“You will be fine. You're strong, okay?” Sirius looks at me with concern. I think he was trying to convince himself.
“I will.” I agree, hoping to just stop my brother's anxiousness.
“Okay, well, I can't lose you again, okay?” Sirius says.
“Who knew you were so motherly? You're going to give yourself gray hairs with all this stress.” I say with a chuckle.
“I'm making up for our mother, I guess, and don't even joke about that. I like my hair black.” Sirius says with a fake painful face.
“Sure, I need to get to class. I will see you around.” I say.
“Yeah, okay, see you around,” Sirius replied while I walked away.
I finished with all my classes and went out to the Quidditch pitch to sit and just clear my head. I could see my body temperature rise. It must have something to do with the upcoming moon.
I sat in silence, just enjoying the cool air against my face until I felt something cold on my face. I opened my eyes and saw it snowing. The snow had already left a thin white blanket on the ground. I didn't feel freezing considering that it was from the fever I assumed I had.
Eventually, the snow had built up to almost knee level, so I decided it was probably time to go if I was going to make it to the Castle not buried in snow. I walked at a slow pace because of the snow build up but when I finally made it up to the Castle; I was relieved because the snow was coming down hard now.
“Where were you Reg?” Sirius asked.
“Out at the Quidditch pitch.” I responded.
“Why were you out there freezing?” Sirius asked.
“Well, I'm actually warm.” I said. Sirius came up to me and held the back of his hand against my forehead.
“You are warm. I think you have a fever. I'm going to take you to the Med wing.” Sirius said.
“No, I'm good. I'm feeling great, actually.” I responded quickly.
“Reg, come on, we need to get you checked out, okay?” Sirius said.
“No Sirius I'm fine.” I resisted.
“Fine, if you won't let me take you to the Med wing, then I should at least bring you to James. His mom was a healer.” Sirius explained.
“No, because then I will have to tell him.” I said with tears in my eyes.
“He will understand, but you don't have to tell him anything.” Sirius says.
“I-I can't Sirius, I just can't have people finding out.” I said.
“Hey, James won't care about what you are. He is very understanding,” Sirius replied.
“Trust me, he will once he releases I'm a monster and once you do, too.” I said.
“I don't think so,” Sirius said.
“Well, you should!” I shout.
“Calm down Reg, you're shaking.” Sirius says gently.
“I'M FINE.” I screamed, truly not knowing what came over me, when I finally let out a sob.
“Hey Reg, you're okay.” Sirius says while wrapping his arms around me and bringing me to a nearby secluded corridor.
“I'm sorry.” I said, looking up through tears.
“Hey it's okay. Your emotions are everywhere because of the moon.” Sirius says.
“How do you know that?” I ask.
“I read about it and, like I said, my friend is one.” Sirius explained.
“Thank you for being here.” I said.
“Of course.” Sirius says.
“But I can't allow you to do it anymore.” I added.
“W-what do you mean?” Sirius asks. I raise my wand.
“I just can't allow you to get hurt by knowing what I am,” I said. My hand was shaking, along with my wand.
“Please Reg, don't do whatever you're about to do. I want to be there for you.” Sirius says.
“I'm sorry.” I said, “Obliviate.” I said. Sirius's face went blank from me taking the memory.
“Reg, what are you doing here?” Sirius asked.
“Just leaving.” I said, while walking away. It shocked me. I even took the memories Sirius had from the last few weeks, but I had to just know if he knew he would be in danger.
