I pursed my lips, running my tongue along my top teeth. The taste of whatever nasty goop that the dentist had used to seal my tooth back together still lingered in my mouth, as did the fuzzy feeling of the anesthetic. I stole a peek down at Rosie, who anxiously bounced his leg up and down. Sucking in a deep breath, I plopped down next to him on the concrete steps, peering at him from the corner of my eye.
I could tell that he felt bad for what happened, by the way that he freaked out when it happened, and the way that he was sitting right now. He could barely even look over at me. He was biting at his nails, not speaking. I wasn't mad though, and I tried to tell him that, not that he would listen. It was my fault, anyway, fucking around with him the way that I did. After what felt like hours of silence, finally he spoke up.
"... I'm sorry that I broke your tooth."
I hesitated, smirking. "I'm sorry that I bit you."
More silence.
"I really didn't think that I hit you that hard. I-I just reacted a-and-,"
"I told you, it's fine," I sighed, dragging a hand through my hair. I heaved a shrug of my shoulders. "Stop apologizing already. It's not a big deal."
With that, Rosie glanced over at me for the first time in a while. He narrowed those icy blue eyes at me, curling his lip. My stomach leapt. There's my Rosie. He shot up, hands clenching into fists. "Alright. Since you're 'so fine', I'm going home. Later."
With that, he turned on his heels and started towards the parking lot. I blinked for a moment, honestly surprised, before shooting up and chasing after him. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait! You can't just leave me here!"
"Sure, I can. I have a car." He spat, fishing his keys from his pocket.
"No, no, no, nuh-uh. You can not leave me here. You drove me, so, give me a ride back!"
"No."
"Yes."
"Eat shit."
"After you give me a ride."
"No way, asshole. Call your mom or something. Find someone else."
"Why would I do that when you're right here? Look, you broke my tooth, so-,"
"You bit me-!"
"SO," I continued, talking loudly over him, which earned me a scowl. "You take me home! You have to!"
Rosie scoffed, unlocking his car as we approached, careful to only unlock the driver's side. He pulled the door open and spun around to face me, leaning on the top of it. "Oh, yeah? Is that, like, in the rule book for what happens when you break another dude's tooth?"
I crossed my arms. "Yes, actually, it is."
He stared at me for a moment, in disbelief, like he couldn't believe that I was still talking to him. Finally, he rolled his eyes and moved to get in the car. "Oh, fuck off."
I grabbed the door quickly, holding it open, giving him my best puppy-dog face. "Come on, Rosie! Just give me a ride! Please!"
"Stop calling me that!"
"Fine. Come on, douchebag, just give me a ride! I'm on the way; you go right past my house! Plus, you broke my tooth!" I threw into his face again, honestly, just to piss him off a little more. When his eyes widened in disbelief and he sputtered for words, I knew it worked. "We wouldn't even be here in the first place if it weren't for you-,"
"You BIT me-!"
"I had to pay for this out of my savings! It totally cleaned me out! Insurance didn't pay for dick! The least that you could do would be to take pity on me and give me a ride home!" I pleaded, practically yanking the door back open when he attempted to close it again. I guess that I got through to him a little bit because he hesitated, his hand tightening on the door as his eyes searched my face. I grinned, leaning in closer to him, inches away from his face, as I whispered, "And you know that I'm not going to move until you agree."
