As Carlisle's biological daughter, you have a natural dislike for the Volturi. You knew of everything that the Volturi has done and still does to stay in power, and you especially hate them for the things they've put your dad through.
So, when he decided to leave the Volturi, you couldn't have been happier.
That was until your eyes met Demetri's eyes as you were leaving. You had froze, not sure what to do. You managed to tear your eyes from Demetri's striking red ones to look at your father for help. You watched Carlisle's face fall at the realization at who your mate was.
"Get me out," you had whispered. You could tell that, while Carlisle dislikes the fact that your mate is the new Volturi guard, he didn't want to take you away from him.
"(Y/N)."
"Please," you begged.
He relented, and together the two of you ran. The two of you became doctors and built up your own vegetarian coven, eventually settling in Forks where you are now.
With the drama and danger around your adopted brother Edward and his now newborn mate Bella, you're almost glad you hadn't ever given into the urge to go back to Demetri, though you're sure he wouldn't have even wanted you.
Though there's a permanent hole in your chest due to Demetri's absence, you've coped.
Until now.
Now, you stand across the Volturi and their witnesses— including Demetri— to protect your family. You zero in on him, and you barely see his slight intake of breath as he meets your eyes for the first time in ninety-five years.
Your dad steps forward slightly, facing the Volturi bravely.
"Aro, let us discuss things as we used to. In a civilized manner."
"Fair words, Carlisle. But a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled against us," Aro replies.
"I can promise you, that was never my intent. No laws have been broken."
"We see the child. Do not treat us as fools," Caius snaps. You clench your jaw, and Emmett subtly rests his hand on your arm to keep you there. You ease back, letting your dad handle things.
"She is not an immortal!" your dad shouts, addressing the Volturi and their witnesses. "These witnesses can attest to that. See the flush of human blood in her cheeks."
"Artifice!" Caius interrupts. Aro quickly holds up his hand.
"I will collect every facet of the truth. But from someone more central to the story: Edward. As the child clings to your newborn mate, I assume you are involved." Edward looks at Bella before affectionately stroking Renesmee's cheek. He looks toward the Volturi and proceeds to walk toward Aro. Emmett grips your arm to keep you and himself from following Edward.
