I awoke so the sound of his voice, "C'mon Connie, get up." My eyelids fluttered open.I saw his face in the day light for the first time. All I can say,is wow. I smiled. "What?" he asked while letting out a small laugh. "Nothing, it's just that, I probably look horrible right now." I laughed. But he didn't. "Well you don't you look beautiful." I looked down to try and hide my blushing cheeks. He helped me up as we walked through the door. He locked it with a key and put the key back in his pocket. We chatted playfully, as we walked trying to find his bike. As we found it, I wrapped my hands around his waist and the butterflies came back. We drove for 5 minutes until I started seeing signs for a freak show. Is this where Jimmy worked? Before we entered the gates he stopped and turned his bike off. He looked down for a second then got off his bike. "Before we go in here I think I need to make a few things clear?" I looked up at him. He looked embarrassed. But why? He sighed. "It's not pretty in there. The people.... they're.... they're nice.... well most of em' are. But they're pretty messed up. Just try not to make a big deal about it. If you act like they're normal, you'll fit in better." I raised my eyebrow. "Of course I'm not going to make a big deal about it." I he smiled a crooked smile. "You say that now, but wait till you see." "Oh they couldn't be as bad as you," I teased jokingly. He chuckled. "You are going to draw their attention when we walk in." "Why?" "They don't see normal folk much. Not out of show hours. Especially not pretty ones either." I blushed. "I'm really not that pretty." "Are you kidding?" I looked down. "Stop. Seriously." I didn't want to be judged on my looks again. Especially not here. Jimmy began talking again. "I'll give you some advice. When you go see Elsa about the job, try not to talk to much about how good you are." I raised an eyebrow, "Isn't that supposed to do when you're trying to get a job? Talk yourself up?" Jimmy smiled. "Elsa doesn't like to be out shined. She has to be the center of attention. Maybe you could suggest being a backup dancer for her be a part of someone else's act." I smiled. "Alright, got it." Jimmy looked towards the gate then back up at me. His dark brown eyes looking into mine. I must look like crap right now. I squatted down to look into the mirror of his bike. Yup crap. My chestnut curls were out of control and frizzy from the rain. The makeup my mother put on my face last night was smeared. Wow. I couldn't even believe it was only last night. It feels like weeks ago. So much has happened since then. I wondered what they were doing. Were they were looking for me or they were tending to their usual schedule. Country club and tennis. I wiped the make up off with my hands and tried to pat down my hair. Jimmy laughed. "Shut up," I laughed too. "You ready?" he asked? I took a deep breath in. "I think so." My heart raced as we walked through the gates of the freak show.
Sorry for another short chapter, the next should be big. xx
