Ashlia walked up to the front of the crowd, feeling confident due to her make-up and her friends standing beside her. She was hopeful that Aiden would ask her!

Samuel, Aiden's best friend, was standing right next to him, eagerly waiting to see who his best friend's proposal would be.

See, since Aiden's pretty popular, many people awaited his announcement. He was holding a bouquet of flowers, and motioned for the crowd to quiet down.

"I wanna ask someone very special to me to go to prom with me," saying that, he turned to Samuel.

"Samuel, will you go to prom with me?"

What?

Everyone went quiet for a second. The silence smothered over the crowd like a blanket. Samuel, especially, looked taken aback.

"Aiden...I-I don't know what to say..." Samuel said, voice quivering.

"Say yes!" Ashlia heard someone from the crowd say. She recognized that voice as Arima, one of her bullies. The crowD began to murmur, and waited for Samuel's response. After what felt like an eternity, Samuel smiled.

"Y-yes! I'll go with you."

And then everyone cheered as the two boys hugged.

Ashlia's world turned red. Tears brimmed at her eyes, and within seconds she ran to the bathroom, locking herself in a stall. Minutes later, there was a knock on her stall.

"Ashlia, it's us," she heard Catherine say, "Ashlia, open the door, please"

"Ashlia...Ashlia please open the door," Ava said.

"Ashlia open the door, please-" Lily said

The stall door slowly opened, revealing Ashlia, whose face was red like a tomato from crying. Lily wasted no time in hugging her, and Catherine and Ava did the same. Ashlia sobbed and whimpered, feeling stupid for ever thinking that someone like Aiden would ask someone like her to prom. Why the hell was Aiden gay? Ashlia internally wished that she could be a boy. Maybe then Aiden would've taken an interest in her. She covered her hands with her sleeves, feeling small.

"It's just a boy," Ava told her, "You'll find someone else," she said, trying to be reassuring.

Now, Catherine wasn't the best at comforting people, but it made her sad that Ashlia felt so hurt. She wanted to say something, but decided it would be best to not, as she feared she may end up saying something wrong and making the situation worse.

They shared a silent moment, but it felt like hours. Ashlia could feel her eyes hurting from all the crying as she eventually calmed down. Once she was able to breathe steadily and not whimpering anymore, she wiped her remaining tears on her sleeves and back out from the hug.

"I think I'm gonna go home," she told her friends, going to walk over to the office to let them know she was going home.

Her friends didn't say anything, and instead nodded, because they didn't want to pressure Ashlia to stay. They felt sad for her, but in the end, everyone goes through rejection, right? It's only normal to feel that way, and Ashlia should get over it soon.

On the way home, Ashlia felt empty.

She felt like all her guts and bones had been ripped out. Okay, maybe that's a little dramatic, but that's how she felt.

She arrived at her house, and opened the door. No one was there. All her siblings were at school, except for her baby brother and sister, who were at daycare while her parents were at work. They tended to work long hours at their furniture shop which they owned, called Rickea.

Ashlia's daily routine would be to come home from school and pick her younger siblings (Sarry and Michelle) form their school, and the twins up from daycare on the way.

She went to her room, and flopped onto her bed, thinking about how things could've turned out alternatively. She always daydreamed of Aiden and her together, and Aiden not asking her to prom doesn't mean she can't continue daydreaming about it!

After a while, she pulled out her phone, and opened Twitter (or should I say...X) after texting her brother, Ian, telling him to pick up her other siblings from school today. She made a vent post on her account so she could feel better. She wanted the sympathy of others, comforting her. Hell, it felt better when random strangers comforted her. The thing was, strangers don't know how she looks, or how she acts in real life. Therefore, they can't judge her for that. It made her feel better about herself.

See, there's nothing wrong with venting online, but..Ashlia ended up being kind of homophobic and also exaggerated everything.

My friends are right, there's plenty of boys ....maybe I'll find someone who really likes me one day.

What the oblivious Ashlia didn't know was that, there was someone who really liked her. She just didn't realize it yet.
